I want to thank all my Patreons for their amazing support throughout the last weeks. You are all amazing <3

So the little experiment with the in-game pledge check didn't work at all. Granted I didn't put in anything to protect the code or any further checks for it, so it was extremely easy to bypass, but I didn't expect it would happen within hours of release.

This is extremely frustrating as it does hurt growth pretty heavily.

However, I decided to not waste time in trying to prevent the leak. I could maybe prevent it for an update or two, but it would be a constant arms race, and I simply don't see that ending well.

Despite what the leaker might think, leaking does slow development and possibly even affect quality. Not only because of the obvious things like Patreon growth, but also because in a one-man operation like this, state of mind does play a role, too.

That's why I'll try not to let it get into my head too much, and just move on for now. I'll be removing the Patreon check in the game and not put any more DRM in the game from now on.

Instead I will add additional incentives for Patreons to give back for all the great support you have given me.

The current plan is to have 1-2 custom renders (or small collections) for characters per month. $10+ Patreons can vote on what the scene is going to be, and everyone from $5+ Patreons will get them. Eventually, they will be added to the game, too as a bonus.

I'll also try to do what I already planned to do which involve Patreons more. While this won't affect the overall story there will be polls and possible event suggestions that can be realized as long as they fit in the game.

Again, I'm really happy for all the great support you have given to me.

I wish you a wonderful week,

- hachi

Hey man, it really sucks about the leaks, but I think ultimately your descision is correct, and you're dealing with this really well. On a better note, I want you to know you're one of the more prolific and hardworking patreons I'm backing, and I enjoy your work a lot. I don't regret backing you for a second, and me and many others are behind you all the way.

It's a painful but very wise decision not to start an arms race with hackers. And a good idea to involve us more, I think that we are a lot around here to support you because we love the game and will be very willing to give a little input here and there ;-) Keep faith !!!

Lets give it a thought: You did the right decision. Now how can we all still profit from the situation? Having the game leaked is, in a way, also kind of an advertisement for the game. Now lets make a move to convince the "free users" to start supporting you. This way we all would benefit from the situation. However its not a good idea to put "support me on patreon" signs all over the game. It will be ignored, is annoying and destroys the atmosphere (reminding you, its only a game). - But there is one special, critical moment, where there must be an invitation to join the supporters. Its at the end of each content of esach current version. When I play a good game and I reach the end of the content, I am always sad and want the game to continue. In this very moment, I am ready to pay for it. If you send in this special moment a positive message like "congratulations, you reached the end of the current version, thank you for playing. If you want to help me devoloping the game, you are welcome to join the team of supporters on patreon." I am shure, many will join. Can you somehow invole such a message in the game?

That makes a lot of sense. I'll add something like that.

Maybe subtly hint that with more financial support new updates will be more frequent and/or have more content to trigger reward behaviour.

> Having the game leaked is, in a way, also kind of an advertisement for the game. I cannot stress that enough. > Now lets make a move to convince the "free users" to start supporting you. This way we all would benefit from the situation. Speaking as one of those freeloaders who is willing to pay for good content, but is financially struggling, I agree! I can only afford to give a few dollars here and there (like the one dollar this month that allows me to write these lines), but knowing every dollar helps, I'm happy to give at least something back. I think there are many more like me (willing, but not able to pay). Encouraging them to give something - even a dollar for a month - could be a good start. Maybe it would also help to spread those possibilities to give hachi some money. Sites like subscribestar, buymeacoffee and flattr for example. Many people already use one or more of these services and maybe don't want to subscribe to Patreon for this. My 2ct. :)

I think Roman has a good idea (but I do not think Leaks are a good advert) Maybe you could consider shortening the time between patron ets. releases 3 - 4 days for 10$ 3 - 4 days for 5$, so maybe only a week from patreon release to public release there may be less incentive to leak. yes involve supporters as an incentive and maybe special renders , polls for members only but stick to the original plan / profile for YOUR game it is not lead by supporters (maybe slightly influenced) {example:- There was an outcry to kill Sarah and I do not think you would do that, there are better options, [strangle the bitch - HaHa]}

It will sadly be a never ending battle. To try and prevent people from leaking, will be taken as a challenge, and they will do it, just to prove they can. At least you do get support from some of the leaks (me). Thank you for your time sweat and tears! keep up the great work.

Hey, don't let this stuff get to you. I ended up on your Pat because of the earlier leak. There's a number of folks who will support your stuff on principal and another group you'll never reach no matter how hard you try. The secret I've learned in life is to concentrate on the folks who stand with you and ignore the folks who don't. Multi-Billion dollar game companies can't stop their games from leaking, so what are we supposed to do? Also you can't really put a pricetag on waking up feeling good about yourself.
