Hi all,

I was stuck with optimizing the Giga sized destruction in the last two weeks . Now I can show you my temporary solution :D Two methods of destruction are made, one with pre-baked animation and another using real time calculation. Both of these two methods can run 90-120 fps at 4K on my PC which I guess it should be enough for a normal computer to run at least 40-60 fps.

I know the city looks kind of repeative right now so my next plan is to make it more like a real city. Moreover, hopefully we can construct some footprints for this GIGA map using blender as well :D

Hope you like this map so far!

well, that first video really provides me with some new ideas XD. I'll try to see if I can split the meshes into chunks maybe.

This is awesome! I think the best building destruction physics I've seen are in the game earth defense force. If you ever need inspiration, take a look at how the buildings break down in earth defense force 5.

If you watch that link, you'll see that the buildings are made up of chunks and segments that break apart in a sequence while emitting different particle effects from inside the building. It looks really cool!

Well… if we are talking about destruction on 1-2 buildings, that EDF effect may looks awesome. However, in our game we need to consider destroying 10-20 buildings at the same time 🤣🤣🤣 that’s why it took me almost 2 weeks to figure out how.

This is going to be so good.

I have a request though, is it possible to adjust the animations so they don't look like they are ice-skating?

GiantessGameUE5

Hmm…. It works for a fixed size… however, as our game needs to change the size, those animations can’t be perfect for every sizes.
