Default currency changed to USD on Patreon (Patreon)
Content
Hey lads!
As mentioned in the previous progress report, I changed the default currency from EUR to USD because 2/3 of my patrons were paying in USD anyway. When you are not paying in the creator's default currency, you are subject to additional fees, so you end up paying more and I get less. That's why it's probably better for you to pay in USD instead of your local currency if you want to save. From what I understand, when not paying in USD, Patreon adds some fees and then rounds up the number. That's why for a $6 tier, you will be charged 6 EUR instead of 5.50. Although that little extra bit will still go into my pocket, you will be simply charged more in the end. Unless you are okay with that or your currency exchange fees work differently in your country and you know what you are doing.
If you are already pledging, you don't need to do anything more, as you will be charged exactly the same amount as you used to be, so your current pledge won't be increased or lowered. Only new fees will be added that will affect how much I earn. If you cancel your existing pledge, you will use the new rules like everyone else.
On SubscribeStar, you pay $5.50-$16.50, while on Patreon, you used to pay $6.00-$17.50, and now it's $6.00-$18.00 because Patreon has higher fees than SubscribeStar, so now the earnings on both platforms are similar. I started using SubscribeStar only last year and didn't promote it at all, and its page looks very barebones since I got used to Patreon and really prefer using it. But if you want to switch over to save some money, then be my guest, as all the content I post is the same on both platforms.
Cheers!
