Progress Report v0.20 #2 - UI & camera improvements (Patreon)
Content
Hey lads!
I'm pretty much done with UI & camera tweaks for v0.20. To sum it up quickly and without going too much into the details - I optimized all UI elements, they are more responsive, most buttons get highlighted by hovering over them, you can scroll through all scrollable windows with either scroll wheel or by holding right mouse button, you can't interact with world by clicking RMB or MMB and so on. Regarding camera, zooming in/out is smooth and can be used with scroll wheel, also maximum & minimum magnitude are both increased, you can toggle free camera mode by clicking MMB and it will make camera to follow your mouse instead (screenshot above shows free camera mode with increased zoom). While I was reworking its roots, I also added feature that people kept nagging me since the game release - you can interact with the world by pressing E instead of using mouse, so game is getting closer to being playable only with a keyboard. Regarding Android, well, I'm not a smartphone player, nor smartphone dev, so porting my game to Android is always a bit of a challenge to get it right. I did some of the tweaks mentioned above, but Android version will always be inferior and more clunky when compared to PC. Of course, I'm not ignoring support for Android and will my best to make it playable on it, too, but PC is my main focus.
Meanwhile, Lepuz is going through all existing dialogue lines adding facial expressions to them. He is like 50% done already, so they will be ready for v0.20. We will also add few more facial animations for bigger variety.
Btw., out of my sheer curiosity, I just checked how many "dialogue lines" we have. We have over 2500 dialogue nodes, and each node stores between 1 & 20 comments (comments are text being showed in the dialogue window, so it can have up to few sentences each). Well, some nodes are unused, some are hidden and used only for scripting purposes, some are repeated, but majority can be seen in the game and most of the nodes consist of around 5 comments, so I would say we have like 5-10k dialogue lines. Pretty impressive, huh? I'm quite surprised myself. And poor Lepuz has to go through them all (whether they are used or not) in order to add facial expressions to each existing sentence. RIP.
I still need to do few small tweaks here and there, but I'm pretty much done with the technical stuff for this update, so I already started working on the new content, but I'll show you something in the next progress report.
Cheers!
