The factionalism that Saw talks about with Luthen is always a huge point of contention in early rebellions. The only thing uniting them is a common hatred of the Empire, but what they want after the revolution can be vastly different (“neoRepublicans…Separatists… Human Cultists”). It is a real question of do you work with people that you hate, and in many ways you think might be worse, for a common cause. It’s the reason there are frequently bloody post-Revolution purges.

Denise Gough who plays Dedra said this about her. “Tony wrote the first scenes for us to cheer for Dedra, but in the end you don’t do it anymore. She is not just a woman in a man’s world, but a fascist in a world of fascists. It was important to see that power corrodes women as much as men”"

I should note that melshi, cass's table mate, is one of the Rebels in the scariff mission in Rogue One. So this is an origin story for him too a little bit.

Cassian picking up on the fact that the prison is understaffed and badly run from just that look around on the way in is a good example of why Luthen wanted to recruit him. Cassian is sharp, observant and ready to use anything he can. Cinta is a very different agent from Cass and Vel too. She's a soldier, looking at the enemy in sight vs Vel and Cass as captains being big picture and longer sighted. It's fascinating.
