Luminara is much more of a Jedi's Jedi, and she's trained Barriss to be the same. But there are drawbacks to that path. A Jedi's Jedi accepts death at some point. Both Luminara and Barriss were willing to lie down and accept the padawans weren't going to make it out of there. It's the slightly Sithy fight and kind of selfish clinging to life and to loved ones that gave Anakin and Ahsoka the drive to survive here. You can also see that Barriss doesn't necessarily change gears all that well. She can get in over her head and flounder. Something to note. This episode tends to live in my head as an example of Anakin's attachment to Ahsoka, though. In other episodes, he does tend to give Ahsoka more responsibility, but this episode shows he absolutely did inherit his lineage's tendency to helicopter parent too. (Lineage = the Jedi line of master to student. Here, Yoda trained Dooku trained Qui-Gon trained Obi-Wan trained Anakin trained Ahsoka. And they all tend to obsess over their students, to greater or lesser extents, and Yoda, for a wise Jedi Grandmaster centuries old, is way too attached to and interested in all his line.)
