Wonderful treat this morning where I am. This episode does give me Queen Amidala energy—Padmé switches gears and starts dealing with a single world's trade problems in the way she must have done in her years as queen. She probably also did several unofficial investigations with her bodyguard handmaidens in the months immediately after the occupation before the economy restabilized. Stopped profiteering; found people in her own infrastructure who weren't dependable. And in the audience chamber with the council, you almost hear her saying to Satine, "Can I try ruling them for a minute?" We differ re: Satine. I like Padmé a lot. I dislike Satine. I find her overly rigid but also hypocritical, harsh, shrill, and ineffective besides. Also, I absolutely cannot approve her as the leader of Mandalore because her beliefs are absolutely devastating and disrespectful to like 70 percent of what makes up their culture. (Maybe less. She does seem very family oriented and civic minded, and those are Mandalorian values.) But she's a pacifist. She's a super pacifist. She won't join the war on either side and will yell at Obi-Wan every time he so much as turns on his lightsaber to defend her life, but she has no problem with her guards with spears and blasters and says squat about Padmé shooting smugglers. The harshness is evident here both in her autocratic dismissal of the council and burning down of the warehouse. She is too impatient to work with her ruling council on solutions for her people. Instead of urging them to cooperate and stimulating their creativity to solve Mandalore's problems, she yells at them for squabbling and goes to solve the problem herself. She's not leading; she's sitting on her fancy chair and fuming, then giving up on the people she ought to be inspiring to help her. Instead of using the evidence in the warehouse for a trial, proving to the people that criminals have infiltrated their midst and allowing for a public punishment of the dangerous people who have harmed their children, she just blows the whole thing up without due process. It keeps the people guessing, and there's no answers for why this seemingly popular tea is suddenly just gone. Which plays into my last criticism: Satine is ineffective. Everything I've said has played into it. But all of these problems have cropped up on her watch, not just her guards' or her council's. She is so out of control of her own government that Padmé feels the need to step in and rule them better (which doesn't work because she's an off-worlder and a senator for a power they are trying to to distance themselves from now). She doesn't manage people well on the lower levels or the higher ones. She has autocratic tendencies but not the charisma or the force to back them up, so she has terroristic movements, widespread smuggling, and her whole supporting leadership squabbling among themselves and looking out for their own interests instead of listening to her, and her chief guards roll their eyes when she tells them to do something. She has no respect, but I argue it isn't because she's so helpless and victimized here. The story tries to set her up as a powerful woman and a hero, someone who is a victim of the ongoing war. A similar setup works with Padmé because the story shows her doing the right things. It shows people listening to her, often, and the scale and effort the evil powers have to put in to counter her work. With Satine, I see a lady screaming, and never listened to, who is often wrong both in what she says and what she does, and whose people just do whatever they want, ignoring her. She has good intentions but no actual power. Sorry for the essay. But I hope you enjoyed it anyway.

I do like Satine. I think this episode shows how little power she really has. She is supposed to be head of state but everyone in her administration barely listen to her and she have to shoot in order for even a simple captain to reluctantly obey. She is trying to find ways to make things better but she would needs to inspire more loyalty to get results. As always Padme is great :) I agree that seing those two work together is great, I like those "girl power" episodes!
