The best speech that brought me to tears...

It's terrible that such stories exist, warning us against the errosion of democracy and the rise of autoritarism and yet, here we are. Great episode, I really like when Star Wars get into the politics, it's a very facinating world to me. (can't wait for Andor S2 too :) )

The politics of eroding democracy are what makes the prequel era so much better than either the fairy tale original era or the clumsy and too broadly drawn sequel era. Padmé is a badass. She is a good fit with Light Side, heroic Anakin. They are both insanely brave and extremely dedicated to public service, kind, family oriented, personally conservative but socially liberal. If Jedi tradition wasn't what it was and they weren't keeping their relationship secret from everyone and Palestine wasn't corrupting Anakin the whole time, they'd be an excellent match. I get why Padmé falls for him. Even if his courtship is awkward af, it is also incredibly sincere, and sincerity is probably something Padmé is extremely vulnerable to after the life she has led. It also makes sense that after years of self-sacrificing dedication to the public good, Padmé really wanted something for herself. What gets me is the "dying of a broken heart" bit, in a state-of-the-art hospital, when the droids and doctors have helped her through the injuries inflicted by her now-crazy-on-the-Dark-Side husband and the birth of her twins actually seemed to go well, while the galaxy still needs her and now she has two babies. It really does seem out of character for Padmé to give up like that to me, and a little sexist that they wrote her doing it after she spent years and years and years being AWESOME. The Clone Wars came out after Episode III, but they still had Episode I and II to justify that withering in III was NOT Padmé Amidala. Especially in the Clone Wars at the height of her awesomeness, I wish she had rallied, raised the twins by herself, and joined up with her friends Bail Organa and Mon Mothma in heading up the Rebellion against the Emperor and her crazy husband. Re: Padmé and Bail Organa, he's married, too, to a really awesome lady he adores. Leia is a princess because her adopted mother, Bail's wife, is the queen of Alderaan.
