I noticed some complaining that the new firmware is too bright or sharp. Actually the current firmware is just a compromise between low and high levels. To my taste it is still too muffled for low level listening while it may appear too bright for higher levels. But mostly this will also be a matter of the used unit. I measured all 4 units that I took with me from the position like shown in the video.
White is my new reference unit which I bought some weeks ago, yellow is an even newer unit I bought last week and you can see that they still differ about 2dB in the treble range. Grey is my very first pre production unit and blue another production unit I got quite early. They all differ to some degree.
For the next firmware I will try to get a better average over all production units also managed a clearer sound at low levels with a smoother result at high levels, I used another dynamic filter for this, and also added dynamic filtering to the outdoor modes which sound really fat now at low levels. Next I will concentrate on the desktop mode. I will also try to squeeze out more bass at high levels by using an additional compressor to handle levels close to maximum. Not sure if I can achieve some improvement, best would have been a completely dynamic compressor adjustment like it is the case with the UBoom L where every single volume step has its own compressor settings. Unfortunately Earfun never managed to get this working for the UBoom X.
If you have further observations on the current firmware please let me know. I will try to prepare a short demo next how the dynamic filtering works for low levels with the upcoming firmware.
