If one can make a disposable junk headphone sound better within a minute than a hyped overpriced premium headphone, claimed by many reviews as being best and offer "True Sound ™" something must be notably wrong in this market.

This is incredible! Imagine if we had $2 headphones on sale where the manufacturer has incorporated EQ changes into the hardware to make it sound better than $400 headphones. What a world would that be!!!

Brilliant video. I notice last year i got some rubbish ear buds lying around l saw in the man drawer .. think free with a Nokia phone like 2 decades ago and me using poweramp music player you can make rubbish headphones sound decent once you muck about with advanced style eq settings. I don't do earbuds as never liked that feeling of rubber in my ear. Then later Samsung did one called live (bean shape) that rests on your ear. Still use them today and whilst the noise reduction is non existence (though they marketed as it has it) the sound is really nice to me but this is because of poweramp rather than buds themselves as quite bland if watching youtube etc.

Makes me wonder what you could do with the ol' reliable Koss KSC75. I used to use those for ages, as they were cheap and sounded so good for the money.

oluvsgadgets

I thought about that. Now that I finally have a target which I think is 99% correct, I can try any headphone. I still think the KSC75 sounds better with the Porta Pro Band while the Porta Pro drivers sound better on the KSC75 earhooks

Josh Barrie

I never got around to throwing the KSC75s onto a headband, as I was content with the earhooks. This was back in the 2000s-mid 2010s when phones had actual ports, so these were my cheap go-to cheap work/out-and-about headphones. But for $12 or whatever they were, they were unbeatable. I'm not suggesting you do it as an official "request", but it might be fun to tinker with to see how close to neutral those drivers can get.

THIS is the quality content I subscribed for! Debunking the crappy and rigged headphone market with facts and honesty. This is why I support you Oluv, im very excited for your own headphone as i am planning to buy and own one of your headphones by myself one day. Keep up the good work!!!

They could work nicely with a Qudelix. With 20 available filters it could be doable and it could be a nice solution to hear my samples for cheap

Hahaha what a great short "f.. You. In your face B&W" video! Oluv what are your thoughts on phasing problems if filters are added? I always had this problems in cars and had to corect phase if i corected the EQ. Wont phase changes disturb the "soundstage" ( closing eyes and pointing out where the instruments are coming from in classical music for example)? Thats what i always wondered if one tweaks the eq to much and also adjusts the "flankensteilheit" of a filter for example.

I haven’t experienced these problems to such a degree with equalizer APO. I recorded lots of nature sounds recently applying my latest compensation and using my latest EQ for the HD58X and it’s the first time that my own recourses offer me absolute realism, I don’t hear the headphone anymore it’s just as if I was hearing the real thing. But I put lots of effort into bringing my the headphone as close to neural as possible and also tweak my recordings manually to make them sound just like the speakers I was hearing. And now listening to these samples gives me the impression as if I was hearing it live. Prior to these I always heard artefacts especially when capturing complex sounds like wind noises, sea shore etc it always had something artificial to them, but this time I tried to correct my recordings for left and right ear and I think if I tried to equalise the headphone separately for left and right I would achieve 100% reality. But I am already happy now. I may try this one but with some higher end model maybe, once I can afford it.

Joined your Patreon because of this video Oluf, love what you do. What software do you use or can you recommend an IOS and Android app where you can play with the sounds as interested to learn - many thanks, kind regards Alex, England

On Android there is wavelet which most recommend and it should work systemwide. On iOS there is no decent EQ app, at least none that would have an effect on Apple Music playback. For windows equalizer APO is the best solution and free.

Question about EQ Potential: Nothing Headphone (1) vs. Your "Headphone Scam" Video

ユニコ

I watched your recent, very interesting video where you demonstrated how effectively you could improve the sound of a cheap free headphone using equalization, and you suggested that good EQ can make even poor hardware sound better than highly-praised, expensive models. Given your strong focus on the power of tuning, I am very curious about the Nothing Headphone (1). Unlike most wireless headphones, the Nothing Headphone (1) provides an extremely detailed 8?10-band Parametric EQ (PEQ) that allows users to adjust the Q-factor (bandwidth) for precise sound shaping. My question is: Doesn't this high level of fine-tuning control make the Nothing Headphone (1) one of the best, most appealing wireless headphones for someone like you who prioritizes maximizing sound potential through EQ?

Mika Eel

Would be interesting.

Mika Eel

"Poweramp equalizer" (Android) is also VERY good and gets improved and updated all the time.

Juan Carlos

the only problem would be that they would have to standardize all there parts and make sure that they all have the same quality otherwise they would need to eq them all by hand

D.G.O

I support that plan!!
