In this 1st sound demo we will listen to the upcoming Joy&Oluv'Sone speaker along the Uboom L and a single Neumann KH80 to give you a first rough idea what to expect soundwise. I also included the JBL Flip 6 later on, as this would be the closest competitor in size and projected price.

The listening setup was like shown above, in my office room laying in bed (Mike in the background is just standing there for company).

This listening position enhances lower bass slightly and should make you hear the differences in bass performance better. I refrained from recording a video as for now because currently my room is a total mess. I will do some 1st video soon.

Please keep in mind, I had recorded this a while back. I am getting incremental improvements every day and in the meantime I managed to achieve a better overall balance between low and high levels, I also improved upper mids for a more natural rendering and also managed to get the bass slightly better under control. This requires continuous listening in various placements and repeated tweaking and the demoed sound is far from final, but can only become even better than this.

Please let me know your observations and if you have further suggestions and ideas.

I am a sucker for the dual u-boom setup - sounds really nice and natural. Totally non-fatiquing sound. Fiddling around with eq you realize how much work it takes to tune a speaker for low/high volume, loudness correction etc etc! Comparing to the tribit Maxsound plus the later is a bit of a "crowd pleaser" with more bass and sharper but still ok/detailed treble. Only thing I miss in the uboom is that "bass kick" using the (smaller) tribit speaker. Regardless of sound impressions from this video I will probably order anyway since "Oluv tuned" :-D

Miguel Kiesse

Wow. I can’t believe the bass extension… please Oluv, keep the bass that deep and not boomy.

Miguel Kiesse

The trebles are nice too. I hope in the final product will be possible to boost the trebles in case one connect two in stereo as there’s a tendency to decrease trebles when two speakers are connect in stereo.

oluvsgadgets

The treble is already boosted and it’s already tuned to sound like a single speaker, connecting 2 will make it just sound the way it is with 2 speakers.

MikeDaveYap

Add a studio preset eq that is close to a denon I guess

oluvsgadgets

I extended it even slightly more now but had to reduce a bit above 100hz

oluvsgadgets

The MaxSound Plus has deeper bass? I remember it to play completely uncontrolled and the treble was very harsh, I liked the old MaxSound Plus more

Brolle

Correct, have the old version. Not deeper but feels more "agile" to use an somewhat weird hifi-term :)

Mario Strugger

Wird er lauter sein als der Uboom L?

oluvsgadgets

Ich könnte ihn sicherlich lauter machen aber würde dann nicht mehr gut klingen, es ging mir hier nicht so sehr um Lautstärke

oluvsgadgets

Which Denon? The Denon Envaya is far from flat

I actually prefer the mono speaker designs because they are ideal for pairing with a second speaker in wireless stereo. Less sound artifacts and comb filtering. I plan to get a pair of these if they come to market.

oluvsgadgets

I haven’t heard 2 in stereo yet but as soon as I have further samples and a working firmware I will do some updates about the sound. Although the result should be pretty natural sounding but I would suggest vertical placement in this case.

Luka Bošnjak

Wow, I'm always impressed with your work but hardware here seems weirdly good, this bass extension in this size is so unique and may attract more people than just us here. Idea for 2 modes for stereo and mono use is great actually, you could tune it for vertical placment in monitor mode and stereo use. But you're so right about the entire tuning proces because I sometimes get a huge improvement on accident by entering wrong numbers for example

Mika Eel

Will there be any app for it availiable for choosing different EQ presets maybe?

Nick De Wit

As someone who is visually impaired i can say it sounds really great on normal level listening the bass extension has a really nice depth to the sound that not is boosted or overdrived the mids are also really enjoyble with the little bit of treble boost you got some sparkle in the 8 to 16k hz which i prefer for lustening to hiats snd other intruments i'v alot of speakers from minirigs to teufel and bowers and wilkins bookshells BUT i'm really in the market to get one and support your further in this porject snd future things well done oluv ;))

I'm excited 😊 Please make it hyperreal - the l-acoustics term to describe the most immersive experience😁😀😀

oluvsgadgets

the general tuning can be hard pretty fast, but then it can take long to get further small improvements. Right now I am pretty satisfied just that it doesn't always play 100% clean with all recordings. It's far better than A1 or other speakers, but yeah some tracks can make it struggle a bit. I can apply more aggressive compressor settings, but then it won't sound as impressive anymore.
