The Dali Katch had often been claimed to be the best sounding portable speaker you can experience receiving servers awards and got an update with the G2 version a while back. I am not sure what exactly has changed compared to the old one, therefore it's high time to finally give it a try. I thought the sEARius with my latest adjustments could be an interesting contender, being much smaller and also cheaper in the end. So let's check them out side by side and choose a winner.

Yeah the Dali is blah.. I'm really curious to hear sEARius vs Xiaomi Sound Party and Minirig 4 Have you ever considered testing Sonos speakers? Also what about soundbars from Sonos and Sennheiser? And popular speakers from Edifier like the MR5 and M90?

oluvsgadgets

I tested the Sonos Roam and Sonos Play and both sucked. Testing soundbars would be much harder as you would always need 2 to be compared against each other.

I don't think that soundbars make much sense, for example I'd rather get something like Fiio SA1 stereo which apparently have a 31 peq filters and a cheap sub.

Richard

since i heard a "work in progress" unit myself, i can tell that we don't need to compare anymore. this is the as real as it gets.

I used to feel the same way, but now I find myself living in increasingly small and awkward spaces that often make it difficult or impractical to set up proper 2-channel. I guess 2 sEARius' could make a soundbar :) Oluv, will the sEARius be low enough latency for watching videos / movies?

oluvsgadgets

It has some slight latency but i personally don’t find it bothersome. There will also be USB audio option which should hopefully also work with TWS i suppose, this would basically mean lossless and no latency

OP1M.DR3M

Woah, interesting.. was not expecting USB audio. I wonder if there's a way to convert HDMI from a TV to USB audio..

oluvsgadgets

I insisted in usb audio as purists may request some lossless streaming option although I personally don’t really find it necessary. I mean even with the crappy SBC codec it sounds better than all those audiophile highres speakers

Yeah, I've come to care much less about lossless these days unless it's on a dedicated higher end 2-channel system. But zero-latency is a plus. I could see using 2 sEARius' as a mini desktop monitor system. If it's always going to be sitting by the laptop anyway, why not plug in USB for max quality and zero-latency. But will we be able to simultaneously charge it while using USB audio?
