Today we can finally listen to the Stockwell III and II side by side as I got the replacement battery for the Stockwell II. Let's find out which one sounds better.

First I got a 2-cell battery which was claimed to work for the Stockwell II, and although it came alive again, it couldn't play at high levels and I had to exchange the battery for another one.
