Update: I uploaded a simple video with both files cut together, for those too lazy to download and manually compare both recordings, of course you will lose some information due to YouTube’s compression: https://youtu.be/qQrZavOMTMI

Attached are 2 uncompessed WAV-files extracted from my last video with 3 different songs played through each headphone, but both recordings were equalized to flat to have exactly the same frequency response. They are synced with matched volume so that you can compare them with the ABX plugin for Foobar or something similar.

I wonder if you can still distinguish them due to "better resolution", "better imaging", "better soundstage", "better bass quality" or whatever, which headphone is A, which is B?

Keep in mind that any imbalance between left/right channel will still be noticeable and those factors can also contribute to some difference in perceived sound stage etc.

I would like to make a more controlled test like this with several headphones, cheap, expensvie ones etc... without moving the headphones between all songs etc. This is just a quick first test.

Listening on my HD650. I find the sound of B a bit better. 1. Vocals sound a bit more detailed and closer. 2. The bass is faster, overall more dynamic. 3. Timbres sound a bit more alive. 4. Stereo image is wider. They sound more engaging because of these differences. So I guess A is Elex and B is Utopia 🤔

The material in file "A" seemed attractive to me because of the brighter sound that is clearly audible. Utopia has a slight raise around 6 kHz, that gives this brightness. So I think "A" is Utopia and "B" is Flex. In general, the test is very interesting!

1.Elex - Slightly more midi and intimate 2. Utopia - slightly more relaxed and stagey . The sound is extremely close and a matter of personal preference , not price .

I felt that I preferred A clearly especially in the vocal part. I felt that the vocals were a bit more forward and the sound somehow moved up a bit. I tried a quick (5min) ABX and got only 6/10. I might try again with more effort to see if I can get a better score...

B is definitely Utopia, can tell only by It's bright sound

MMMM

Wow, small differences but there are some. I must say B sounds wider, but that doesn't mean necessarily better, as A sounded to me more solid in that regard, as what supposed to be in the middle stays in the middle like the vocalls. It does appear that A sounds more sparkly, so I think it's the Elex. B is Utopia, and I like the sound of the snare more here as it has more snap. Bass hits harder on B - More punchy. There's something more relaxed about B. I listened over my speakers Neumann KH310 in a treated room with manual calibration (EQ) 30 bands per channel. Both headphones sound nice to me in the end, but actually if I had to choose one I would choose the Elex (if A is the Elex). Why? Because the vocals sound right and that's most important, in the middle, no fake wide stereo...

Greg Mora

My guess: B = Utopia. A = Elex

Adriano Moreira

Impressive how the audio file is better than the one on Youtube. By the way, I don't know which is which, but I prefer the "A" sound.

WAV files are far more detailled than the YouTube video. In this comparison I would choose B to be the winner. B seems to be the Uthopia. But both headphones are really very very close.

Sonny Chatwiriyachai

For the last song, to tell the truth I cannot tell them apart.

Adriano Moreira

Yes. I compared the two files in the program I use to edit audio and video, Sony Vegas Pro, and listened to it with the Sennheiser HD 560s headphone. I think this method of showing headphone sound through the binaural microphones placed in your ears is fantastic. Even the measuring device (looks like the 3dio brand) is great for giving a general sense of the sound especially for showing comparisons. But the WAV file is the best of all since we are talking about nuances. Of course it also depends on the music. Here with the WAV files the biggest difference is evident in the last song, when the vocals enter.

A utopia, a bit clearer B elex, still great, a little less finesse

Joao Lopes

In B the sound is a bit left shift (the vocals on the last song is centered in A and a bit to the left in B) and the bass is more emphasized while in A the sound is more airy. I think A is Elex and B is Utopia and prefer A.

Mika Eel

A is way more clear for me. after hearing for 15 minutes and comparing and getting to know! the differences, I much more prefer A over B B is somehow muffled in the highs and the audio picture of the snares is not as clear to distinguish from the rest than it is on A.
