Lately I have been tweaking the tuning for the Earfun Free Pro a little bit more and I am convinced it sounds even better now. I was never fully satisfied with the upper mids, as I was relying too much onto measurements which never quite resembled what I was actually hearing. Due to the time pressure by Earfun to finally settle for a last tuning, I simply could never get it to that level which I was aiming for, not to forget the cheap hardware itself that has its own acoustic limits. But now I fnally managed to make it sound like I originally had had in mind with an even more transparent and more natural tuning than before, although due to sample variation my new settings may need some additional adjustment for any given unit. I am currently trying to find the best universal settings which should work for all units.

I assume there may be still interest in an Earfun Free Pro OE tuned by me especially by those who couldn't get any from the official production runs, therefore I will soon announce a detailed procedure how everyone could transform their Earfun Free Pro into an OE edition with my tuning.

Also worth mentioning is that recent units of the Earfun Free seem to have had some hardware changes probably within the chipset as the latest units I tried did not have any AAC compression artefacts anymore and didn't work correctly with my original custom firmware.

Although I am currently in contact with a Chinese ODM manufacturer for a possible future IEM with my own brand, I cannot say when my first own product will really become alive as first I need to pick the best suitable samples and check if I can really manage to make them shine, not even talking about the entire issue financing a production run of several thousand units...

As long as I have no own product I would like to offer everyone a way to tweak the regular Earfun Free Pro versions to also get my tuning with the option to adjust it further to one's own taste, or fine tune it for your particular unit. I will also make a public video and announcment about this soon, this way everyone can try my tuning ior tweak it further. Especially now during the 3rd anniversary Earfun is celebrating, you can get the regular Earfun Free for even cheaper than usual.

How? Everyone who takes the enthusiast level and sends me a message will get a step by step tutorial how to save my EQ values into his Earfun Free Pro unit (regular or OE version). I should have everything ready by the end of this week and after verifying my latest settings for several other units.

Just keep in mind that you will lose the original tuning saved within the firmware, and you won't be able to revert back in case you really like the default sound. But you will  get both my original EQ settings for the OE version, and also my current updated settings which you can all save at once within your unit, and you even have 2 additional EQ slots where you could save additional variants. This will only work with Android though, you need an Android device for the tuning app, but once saved within the Earfun Free Pro it will stay there permantently, until you change to another saved preset through the app. Switch between all saved presets is only possible through the app though.

I would just beg everyone not to share my settings with anyone else. It took me lots of effort to get the tuning to the current level, and I don't want anyone to suddenly offer OE versions on Ebay for inflated prices as already seen before....

Thanks for all your support so far!

Nice time to buy an earfun Free Pro. Never get the Oluv Edition :/

Tyssel

That sounds great! I got the first batch of your Earfun Free Pro OE, and I mostly really like them, but to me there seems to be a quite bad peak at 3K, so I can only listen to them with manual EQ applied that reduces the 3K range by 10 db, so quite a lot. I listen to a lot of Metal, and specifically e-guitars sound really bad to me without manually adjusting the 3K area down a lot. All other music genres seem fine to me with your tuning, just metal with a lot of e-guitars that seem to be around 3K make it sound really bad. I am very happy with the headphones, I just always need to remember to enable the EQ app when I listen to music. It sounds like with that tuning app you mentioned, I could now myself update the tuning to reduce the 3K area a lot to my liking, and then no longer need any EQ app running on my phone, right? So that would be great!

Michał

Wow that info really made my day - I already own your edition of earfun free pro and really like it - probably best sounding in ears i have ever tried. Is the difference really big in comparison to earfun OE ? Can't wait for a video :)

Chet D

Sounds great, Oluv! My OEs sound incredibly accurate and satisfying to me. I will definitely try the new tuning. I wish I had a need for another pair of Free Pros to adjust, but nothing comes to mind. Personally I would love an OE mini boombox like an Anker Motion Boom. I currently use a Xiaomi Mi Speaker or a pair of Tribit Stormbox Micros, but I'm missing your signature transparency/quality that's present in the OE Free Pro. Cheers and thank you!

Gilbert Salinas

Hi Oluv! Always interested in hearing your new tunings, I’d be delighted to try out your new tuning … cheers!

oluvsgadgets

Exactly, I already had to reduce 2.6khz by several dB within my settings you could simply use an even higher value

Arturo

I also have the Oluv edition earfun pros. Very very nice sound, especially the low end. The only thing I would like to change is a bit more sparkling high. Bit more the sound as the airpods max. But that's a personal taste. Cheers!

Alex Cirovic

Would be nice to offer this to the owners of the OE, regardless of the tier.

Dimitar Pankov

I'd really like to have the chance to experiment with the tuning and I've just ordered a set of the standard Earfun Free Pros I really hoped that it'll be available to all patreons regardless of their tier but if needed I guess I can probably also upgrade.

yossibm

Oluv, are you still planning to do an EQ for the Air Pro 2? because that could be a good opportunity to get them too.

Howard Lainton

Hi Oluv. Sadly I missed out on the first time of Ear Fun sets you tuned but am hoping to get a pair this time round. I do get the impression though that you would make a significantly better job than me setting these up so for me they will probably remain faithful to your work

oluvsgadgets

Yes that was my plan although I cannot promise that the result will become as good, I also have slight problems with getting a nice fit with this toothbrush design, so I usually wouldn’t have chosen it as a product I would like to use in contrast to Free Pro which I found comfortable from the very first moment.

oluvsgadgets

I need to diversify a bit between different content for different levels, there must be some bonus to take the higher level tier otherwise it won’t make sense to even offer higher levels

yossibm

Is there any reason to prefer them over the Free Pro? ANC/transparency is better?

oluvsgadgets

I haven’t noticed any real difference but to be honest I just used them shortly as I couldn’t listen with the default tuning for longer.

oluvsgadgets

Could you please name me some tracks that are affected. Even on the worst units the response was just 1-2dB above the target therefore I cannot imagine how you would need to reduce it by 10dB

Chris Pingel

Is it possible to tweak the regular EarFun (the ones you equalized two years ago or so) with this procedure also? Of course not with the same settings, but I'd like to know if it's possible in principle.

oluvsgadgets

Why? Didn’t you like it so far? I just tried to make it even better

Dennis

Dennis

Tyssel

Sure! First, I think it's important to note, I test at 80% volume. I think you mentioned you test at significantly less volume, and the perfect tuning will change dependent on the volume. To me it feels like the bad 3K peak becomes a lot worse at high volumes than at low volumes, might be related to the surely relatively cheap amplifier hardware in the headphones.

Tyssel

So here's two songs that I tested it with and that really show the "issue" very well: 1. Powerwolf ‐ Dancing with the Dead (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fAFwkl8Ac5w) Real guitars start at around 0:20 minutes in the song. Without my own EQ, those guitars there hurt my ears a lot at 80% volume, it sounds super harsh and ugly. With my EQ, it sounds very pleasant at 80% volume. Switching the EQ on makes the headphones sound so much better and smoother that it feels like totally different headphones. Even more when the refrain starts at 1:07, without the EQ it sounds like knifes in my ear, with my EQ it sounds super nice. 2. Amon Amarth - Twilight of the Thunder God (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFYVcz7h3o0) First minute of the song shows it all basically. Without my EQ, it sounds like there's a huge amount of "annoying noise" in the background. If I enable my EQ, the annoying noise goes away and the song sounds close to the way it "normally" sounds when listened to on high-end audio equipment. I'm sure it's way easier to judge when you have listened to the songs thousands of times on high-end headphones/speakers like I did, but I hope you can also hear it in a direct comparison when listening to it for the first time, it's a very obvious difference. --------------------- To give you some exact numbers, the important part of my custom EQ, on top of your tuning, when I do it at my PC with more exact values is: -8.5 db at 2500 hz -4 db at 3150 hz -8.5 db at 4000 hz On my phone EQ app, I just move 3000 hz down by 10 db, the EQ app there has less precision so just reducing roughly 3k is best there. And a minor change is that I personally also like to add +7.5 db at 8000 hz for some extra clarity, but I think that's likely subjective, and not really related to the issue at 3k.

ToneDeafLoser

Sounds awesome. I am in. Will upgrade and send msg.

oluvsgadgets

Nein mein Freund bekomm ihn erst morgen. Hätte eigentlich schon Samstag kommen sollen.

Brett Rawlings

I also have the OE Edition and would love to try the updated tuning when available. I have been very happy with the earbuds.

Jerzy Runowski

Posiadam "Twoje" słuchawki i bardzo chętnie dokonam upgradu. Czekam na instrukcje. Tak na marginesie, to jestem Twoim Fanem :-). Cenię Twój smak brzmieniowy i fachowość. Pozdrawiam z Polski.

SKM

Oluv I would love to see what I can upgrade with my earfun free pro OE editoon

Luc P

Great news! I would like to get the new tuning if its possible. if its possible , please share also an original tuning of non Oluvs version. I would like to check how far are they from you tuning wchich I personally really appreciate. Thanks a lot

Looking forward to the Air pro 2 Eq too.

Yin hei lau

If you were to manufacture your own brand, I’ll definitely purchase one for each member of my family

Jari Behm

Great news. I would like to get the new OE tuning if its possible.

TheCatnipMouse

This is awesome news, I gave away my first run EFP OE to someone who had more need for them than I but I do miss having them as a reference. I will get myself a standard one and look forward to the method being shared.

Békési Viktor

OMG! What a great news! I already have an OE edition from the first batch, and very very curious about the new tuning, and what you achieved after an already great tuning. Thank you very much Oluv for your big effort and continous support of the community!

Florin

Hi Oluv. I would like to get the new and old firmware and instructions how to install. Also if you have something for the new earfun air pro 2 it would be great :) Thanks

oluvsgadgets

All my EQs will be available for the Enthusiast level only from now on. It’s quite a tedious process which takes lots of hours listening, adjusting, comparing etc to really get perfect results, I tune by ear and do not rely solely on measurements like most AutoEQs.

DS _89

Maybe earfun uboom with oe signature sound?

Is any possible way for the iOS users to get the EQ setting done? Don’t have any android devices ~

Dennis

oluvsgadgets

There are tutorials how some android emulators can be run from PC but it would be probably even more effort to get it running correctly

oluvsgadgets

Dennis

Haha yes Please!!!

oluvsgadgets

The UBoom has already my tweaks and suggestions included

Arno Schneider

Dear Oluv. I am a fan of your Earfun edition, too. Could you send me your newest sound tuning? That would be nice.

Dennis

shyonetwo

I just received my 2nd pair of Earfun Free Pro - but this time the regular version. I also tuned it to the new 10/21 settings to make it a real OE, but with AAC. It's very interesting to hear how different my original OEs and the new ones sound (even when both use SBC). @Oluv: What was the track where the AAC artefacts were noticeable?

Wayne Lee

Hi Oluv! I am new to this patron thing. I only created it because of you. Would it be possible to get the latest tuning for the ear fun free pro OE? Love your work! Can't wait for your own ODM product!

oluvsgadgets

Am ODM product would imply high investment costs which I probably won’t have anyhow. And I can only offer a single tuning while the more and more I listen I get convinced that every ear needs an own tuning which should I can at least extrapolate from the ear canal resonance and tune towards this. It’s all not that easy. I could experience by myself how differently an IEM will be perceived if you hear the resonance at 6.5K or 6K.
