Yesterday I created a first EQ for the Earfun Air Pro 2 which is already available to my enthusiast level tiers. I am quite stunned by the results. I can hear lots of potential from this inear, as already now after my first quick adjustment I perceive it somehow more open and airy sounding than the Free Pro with my tuning. The Air Pro 2 sounds more like an open headphone which may be related to the fact that it doesn’t insert that deep into the ear canal.

But there is one problem: although the custom tuning for the Earfun Air Pro 2 is saved within the unit and will remain saved, it will always switch back to the default tuning again after power down. This means one would need to use the Airoha app to manually switch to the user EQ every time after taking it out of the charging box, which of course is not the best solution.

Because of this I am in discussions with Earfun right now if we could get a custom firmware for the Air Pro 2 with either one single tuning or even different versions with different EQs optimised for the given ear canal length.

So far the response from Earfun was rather reserved, they do not seem to be interested at all therefore I probably won’t invest more time into optimising my current settings any further although I really like its sound after my current adjustment.

I will keep you updated about the progress wirh Earfun. I would just need your feedback on the current tuning, and where to improve it even more. Also important for me is to get again some values from all owners of the Air Pro 2 where exactly you hear the main peak. I hear it at exactly 5450hz and my current settings are optimised for that frequency.

I hope Earfun will decide to help with this as I am sure soundwise it can easily outperform all similar offerings from Anker, Apple etc. But I won’t promote a product which simply sounds bad in its default state. I cannot stand the default tuning and wonder how someone can even listen with this. But the Air Pro 2 has some significant improvements over the Free Pro: more recent design, better ANC and transparency mode, more stable Bluetooth connectivity. Although I have issues with getting a good fit with it and I get some driver flex noises which I never had with the Free Pro.

Oluv I really appreciate this information, i was thinking about buying one pair to set custom eq, so i will wait some time.. Thank you.

Eoghan

They are currently not selling this model to Europe due to warehouse shortages

oluvsgadgets

I wouldn't get it now anyhow as long as I don't get a custom firmware with my tuning from them, which seems a bit unlike though. the default sound is just horrible.

Dennis

Not to Bad. But i just bought an free pro and i really love it. Dont need the air. Tuned with your EQ and push up a little bass up. And for me its perfect really. Was the Best Deal to sell the Samsung buds Plus and buy the Earfun and get the ethuast Level. Its fit perfect in my ear you can really wear it hours over hours no problem in the gym to. I dont care about NC this is so deep and Full Sound in your ear you hear Nothing still with NC off. My girlfriend hates it i use it everyday Listen to music.Danke!

Irrelephant

It's strange to me that they aren't interested in a custom firmware again given that the Free Pro sold at least 4K units. Eitherway, this sounds interesting. Great work Oluv

Those companies are only interested in mass sales. They are not interested in releasing a great sounding product. That’s not their goal. All these companies want to release the same product again and again to make more and more money.

I found the first attempt tuning is too dark for me. When I wear one ear piece with the other ear wearing earfun free pro, there is a clear difference between the two. My assumption is that you didnt get a good seal with the eartip (which significantly impact the ANC as well, btw when ANC is turned on the base is slighly boosted in the air pro 2). To get a better seal you might want to try the sony tip, i use the largest one and the seal is as good as the larget stock tip but with much secure fit.

What do you think Sennheiser IE 300 vs IE 400 Pro ??

Jari Behm

Yes I understand. I am trying to find good IEM's (not wireless) it's just too difficult.

oluvsgadgets

You can try Etymotic but their overall balance is not perfect either and I stopped using them due to repeated issues with my ears when wearing them

Jari Behm

Etymotics are too uncomfortable. Why all headphones made in France are so much more expensive in Europe ??

oluvsgadgets

Because all companies are trying to rip you off

oluvsgadgets

Keep in mind Crinacle’s measurements are all done with 8K resonance, no one hears it at this frequency. All these graphs are useless for really judging the most important area. It may give an overall idea of the general sound, but you will never know how the 8K peak will sound for you when it shifts lower.

oluvsgadgets

You can try it but I assume it will sound rather harsh

oluvsgadgets

It sounds brighter to me than the Free Pro. They even measure nearly the same just that the Air Pro 2 has an additional bump around 8.5khz and of course upper treble differs slightly as it’s very hard to control those over measurements, you need to rely on your ear only.

May I ask you which Sony tips do you exactly mean? Thank you.

Jari Behm

Ok. I'll wait. What do you recommend to check in Chifi big day 11.11. ?

Dovydas

11.11 is a scam for the most part. Check on AliPrice before buying anything to make sure you are getting a good deal.

Would you consider tuning the axel grell tws1, there is an soundID app which you can do custom tuning when it is released. BTW in your video you were not sure if the earbud is tuned by axel himself but he confirmed he tuned the bud himself and no more adjustment will be made regarding the sound profile, but I am sure you can tune this baby to next level and you don't seem to hate the bud in the default state but expected it to be better.

oluvsgadgets

No I won’t spend 200$ for it, as I think I can get better results out of the much cheaper earfuns. Why spend more as the TWS/1 was buggy and the comfort was worse besides it’s not my job to tune it. If they asked me to do so I would. But the Earfun already sounds way better than anything else I tried, I am currently optimising my profile even more and it would take me long to manage the same for the TWS/1 another problem is the SoundID app which is also a pain in the ass to use and not flexible enough as the filters are limited with their Q-factor. When I wanted to optimise the Drop Panda with SoundID to all the other pads that are offered now the app won’t even want to connect to the headphones anymore. Axel is an audio legend, he should know what he is doing, I am just an amateur.

gri

Do you hear the soundcore liberty 3 pro?

gri

i think they have Good potential.

For those who are not aware by now. https://github.com/jaakkopasanen/AutoEq This is worth dwelling into Been using AutoEQ+Peace gui to create custom presets for a while now. Beauty is that I can conviniently EQ sound on my PC and later export that preset to Wavelet (Android only). Posting for awareness.Idk maybe someone out here can figure it all out and finds it useful. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
