As we are nearly 1000 this month (although many will leave again after tomorrow) I wanted to make a final poll again asking you about your ear canal resonance frequency similar to the one I did before: https://www.patreon.com/posts/59465634

But this time I extented the range even more and would kindly ask everyone to tell me their value they are getting with either the Free Pro or Free Pro 2 (by selecting the most nearby value provided). In case your left and right ear differs, please select both values.

Like demonstrated before, it's the main peak I am looking for visible in the measurements at 6khz in my case and it should be hearable well with the "empty EQ" for both the Free Pro and Free Pro 2:

I need to get a better overview about the real distribution of ear canal lenghts for the planning of my future products and how to deal with the different individiual resonances. The more answers I get the better to get a valid representation of the actual situation, it will help me a lot for my future work.

Thanks a lot, O.

I seem to have different peaks for my 2 ears, although if I'm not too fussy about it, I can say I have a common peak at around 5500 Hz and one around 7500 Hz

Also worked for me, I got 5800 or 5900

Yes it's obvious that every time the payment is common many leave the building

Yea, but there also will be a core that will stay and support and new people coming in. Overall the number will grow. Noone else among the audio crazies is currently doing anything like this. Im just here for the ride. I oddly hear the resonance at 5600hz, does that seem too low? I almost cannot believe I m at the lowest end of the spectrum. I do have fairly small ears though.

Mine starts at 7250 and peaks 7300ish. Never thought that a custom EQ for my ear canal response would make such a huge difference. The 7300 tuning for the EFP2 gives so much more stage, 3d-ness, space and smoothness compared to the 'standard' 6000 tuning. Incredible

I have a hump in my left earcanal that make it impossible for me to find a suitable setup. I have tried the 2 different site setup but this doesn't work. I choose the setup for my right earcanal and it does fit very well.

Earcanal response as a function of length//volume of your ear canal can't be too low/too high. It's just a biological property that varies across individuals

I have 7000 but im just a little confused about the 14300hz drop. It doesnt seem to give me a peak there. The loudest point in the upper treble is around 10500/11000hz. Also i hear its softer between 8 and 10khz compared to the efp1. They both sound really good and smooth with pink noise but i cant decide which is objectively more "correct" and if i should increase 14300 or not. Maybe the slight unevenness is what gives it the 3d image compared to the "flat" efp1 My hearing starts to fade after 14khz anyway though. I can hear 16khz but just barely.

Is the resonant frequency at the point where the tone is audibly the loudest? If so it's at 4500 hz for me.

Marc

7300 left, 7650 right! I always knew I was special, LOL. Oluv, thank you for your work, you are an amazing geek! Love your enthusiasm, guten Rutsch!!!

Hi Oluv, The 7300 tuning sounds best for me, also with listening to pink noise. However doing a sine sweep with the 7300 tuning i still hear a minor peak around 7000 while my peak with the raw tuning of the EFP2 is really at 7400 Hz. When doing a sine sweep with the 7000 tuning I have almost no peak between 7000 and 7500 Hz. When I would choose a tuning based on only the sine sweep I would choose the 7000 tuning. However this tuning sounds bad to me with listening to music and to pink noise, and at the end it is al about the music. 😉

You can try shifting the 7300 filter down to 7200 or 7100 or lowering the Q factor or even reducing gain more.

enic

Mine is super low too. 4800-5200Hz

J Hill

Sorry to ask here but can someone link to the post giving instructions how to find your individual resonance. And I’ve lost the little filters for my earfun Oluv edition. Is there something else that works the same? Thank you very much!

François

Hi, same here : I don't know how to fine my ear canal resonance

Pieter Algra

Hi Uv, I found out I need to use the 7000 tuning for my left ear and the 7300 tuning for my right ear. When doing a sine sweep I noticed that at 7000 Hz the sweep turned to my left ear and at 7300 hz to my right. The most ‘flat stereo frequency response’ i have with this setting. 👌🏻

Pieter Algra

You can send the Earfun Customer Service ( service@myearfun.com ) email with the question if they can you some mesh filters.

Hi I am new here and not an audio engineer nor an audiophile. I "just" enjoy a good natural sound. But I am a bit overstressed by finding my "resonance". I have swept from left to right (free pro 2) and do not hear a lot of differences between the frequencies . Sure some are more annoying than others and subjectively are a bit stronger here and there. But nothing really sticks out. Anything I am doing wrong here? When adapting setting around 6250 it sounds okish bit still rather flat and empty. But maybe that is the type of transparency that is exactly wanted? For me it feels a bit "cold". BTW regarding the app: I have to say that I am unable to save any "empty Eq settings" as was recommended. It keeps jumping back to my 101,102,103, or 104 saved ones. Every time I have to correct some values after changing while it inserts commas even after is saved it with dots :(

Peter L

The sweep method is not accurate for me, I prefer to assess the resonance based of best sounding tunning from Oluv. Interestingly, best tunning for the FreePro was 6400, while for the FreePro2 it's 6250.

Roge

Ich habe jetzt mal mehrere Equalizer probiert und der 6750 hört sich bei mir am offensten an im vergleich zu 7.000 und 6.500. Dann wird das wohl der richtige Bereich/Peak sein.

Bibicu

I could not find ear canal resonance by doing a sine sweep. Changing frequency confuses me and can't seem to hear any peak. Playing pink and white noise worked for me. I could eliminate the whistle by applying a -10db filter at around 7700 Hz
