This time I wanted to offer realistic sound samples for all the IEMs shown, unfortunately it's not that easy to get reliable results. Using the Free Pro 2 with my reference tuning as base, all the other IEMs should more or less sound like themselves when listened over the Free Pro 2. While this worked for the major part of the IEMs I recorded here, I coudln't get any decent result for the Nothing Ear 1, also the Apple Airpods Pro needed an additional correction, which I quickly applied by ear to get a result which was more similar to what I was actually hearing in real life.

The measuring couplers obviously lack precision and consistency among different IEMs, which makes it close to impossible to get valid sound samples from different IEMs. I will try to do further experiments in future to see if I can at least manage usable results for at least the most important IEMs I own.

I also remember someone having posted a comment about the Airpods Pro some time ago suggesting an app which should allow you to import your hearing profiles and edit them, to be used as a more flexible sound correction for the Airpods Pros (and other Apple headphones too). If you know this app, or if you can still find the comment somewhere, I would love to take a look at the app and try improving the sound of the Airpods Pro if possible. Thanks!

I totally agree with you that product reviews are not the way to go forward as judgment about all other products than the earfun Free Pro 2 is known. All other sound stuff will sound really awful and CRAPPY. 😂 So some more fundamental stuff would be interesting. Unfortunately your Neuman KH80 deal went south, as this would really very interesting to compare your earfunfreepro2 reference tuning to a speaker with a real flat in room response. I am still not sure if your tuning is really flat or only what you personally perceive as flat. Maybe you have the chance to do this comparison in a recording studio where they should have a flat speaker system? Also pretty interesting would be to hear a comparison between Harman tuning and your tuning and demonstrating what you do not like with the Harman tuning.

KSo

Hmm, muss ich wohl nochmal hinhören. 🤔🙂

The pink noise demonstration was very illuminating. It would be very interesting to understand how you work through correcting a tuning using pink noise.

Simon Mittermair

Regarding the noise canceling, rumors on the Internet are that Apple changed something in the latest firmware updates for the Airpods Pro, probably because some people were experiencing vertigo. When I bought them, ANC was perfect for long commute, canceling almost all noises like chatter and squeaky noises on the tram. Less the rumbling when doors closed but that's okay. I couldn't wish for more. After a few days, and probably the fw update, it got way worse and I can hear people talk and everything. I had McShark check them, but they told me they couldn't find anything. I mean, ANC is kind of working but in comparison to the beginning it's really disappointing. Listening, trying to get it as smooth as possible while still maintaining the character I hear from a speaker. I could reduce all peaks and make it even smoother but it wouldn’t sound correct then.

KSo

What speaker is your reference point? Every speaker sounds different. Each of these speakers sounds different in different rooms. There is no such thing as „the character of a speaker“ or do I misunderstand you somehow?

Dennis

Hey sony mh 1?

David Walsh

Well, I could write a funny reply and say that I keep listening, but it doesn't change. A serious reply is that listening to pink noise alone is difficult for me to begin to determine what frequencies to start adjusting.

Josh

Hi Oluv, not sure if this is what you were referring to but here is the article I had sent before about manipulating Apple’s audiograms: https://forum.hearingtracker.com/t/apple-airpods-max-or-pro-let-you-add-your-audiogram-then-correct-for-it/61380/14 It looks like one app for doing this is called iHearIt. That said, based on what you’re finding with the adaptive EQ I think you would drive yourself crazy trying to tune like this, because the adaptive EQ may not even sound the same from one day to the next depending on insertion or background noise. Probably best to leave well enough alone with the AirPods. They still are a little boring for me for music but at least they are great with video and the transparency mode is by far the most natural probably because of the vented hardware.

oluvsgadgets

I found the app, it’s called IHearIt it lets you access and edit all values and add new ones which iOS imports then als corrections. It could be used to indirectly equalize the AirPods Pro or all other Apple headphones, but it’s a very clumsy way as you don’t hear the result directly thus should rather base the correction on measurements which on the other hand are not performed correctly… with other words: it’s a pain in the ass, I am not sure I really want to do this.

oluvsgadgets

Try seeking for frequencies that stick out. Create a notch filter and move it around until you cancel out some peak. It’s a long step by step procedure, it took me long to approach it for the Free Pro 2.

David Walsh

Seems like a sine sweep would be a better starting point, catch the low hanging fruit, make it "smooth", then start making grosser adjustment to match a particular pink noise timbre. Like in theory the ER2SE response is completely smooth, but the timbre is not correct, but I expect this could be corrected with fairly wide-band adjustment... I guess all of the above can be taken with a pinch of salt, just my initial thoughts.

Malcolm Herron

You may already have it but there’s a nice system wide parametric equaliser for macOS called eqMac. It’s what I use for your HD600 reference EQ. Maybe it would let you find a nice EQ for AirPods then input that into IHearIt app. But I’m not sure how IHearIt works

Hi! I bought a pair of earfun free pro 2s and I want to know if Tune it with my android device using the airreps app, will it retain its EQ value after I disconnect them from the android phone and pairing them with an iPhone? Thank you.

JB6789

Omar, the AirReps15 6x EQ tuning is persistent, so yes, it becomes the default EQ for the EFFP2, even after earbud's power down/reset. App is not necessary once the custom EQ is uploaded/sync'd. Yes, the EQ being persistent, the buds can then be paired to the iPhone.

JB6789

After 1 year, still loving my EarFunFree Pro 2's with the Oluv custom EQ (6000Hz for moi). As an aside, to keep the case pristine, buy a cheap silicone skin on AliExpress (search "Fiil T2 Pro TWS silicone shell" to find the perfect match/color, as they share the exact same case dimension). Price for the silicone skin is usually under US$3.50, delivered.
