Sorry to inform you that the launch planned for today was delayed to next week (probably Tuesday) because of some production issues by the factory. As it won’t make sense to start any presale as long as no units are produced yet, they decided to wait until the first production batch will really start without issues.

This will be the public video presenting the Earfun UBOOM L next Friday which I wanted to share with you already before. Curious about your thoughts.

There will be 30% discount for those who subscribe to Earfun's site which will also get online the same day. This makes the price around $/€ 56,- for those who register in time, as the discount will be only limited for 10 or 14 days, and also for 500 to 1000 units only, depending on how many will actually subscribe or register. The speaker should become available on 20th of June and you will be able to redeem the code on amazon.com, amazon.de and amazon-uk. This is the info I got so far.

This video also uses my new compensation I applied to the binaural microphones, which should offer a smoother sound than my previouis compensation. I may still invest some time during the next days to improve it even more, which is actually not that easy. In case I manage something better I will upload a new version before publishing. My goal is to get a very lifelike result if listened over the Earfun Free Pro 2 with my reference tuning, just as if you were sitting in front of the speaker with very little colorations compared to the original sound.

Update:I reuploaded the video with improved audio. You can find the old version here: https://youtu.be/ClTpXZvSmK8

It took me several days or rather nights to come up with some improvement but it’s really hard to achieve a convincing and universal result which should be as uncoloured as possible. You should still hear an improvement especially regarding treble and clarity.

I may need to change my current approach with trying to use speakers playing pink noise as reference for “neutral” and rather concentrate on using real natural sound sources for calibration and equalizing as speakers are not able to produce a really unbiased even spectrum without dips and peaks. I hear weird frequencies in the phantom center which I cannot explain which may be the result of just 2 sound sources playing a sound but no sound coming from inbetween. Wind noises, waves, splashing water etc should be a much better reference, like I noticed just today when I was trying to record some leaf sounds from our birch moving in the wind but using my current compensation which I had achieved during the last days listening to speakers I hear lots of “errors” in the frequency spectrum that I recorded. It’s mostly the area between 2.5-13khz which is hard to reproduce with a headphone because the spectrum gets totally distorted by the human ear (both the outer ear and ear canal). Once the ballyhoo around the release of the UBOOM L will decline I want to experiment more with trying to achieve an even more neutral “reference” for both my recordings, equalizings, tunings or whatever as this should improve my results for everything I was doing so far. Therefore I want to thank everyone for their continuous support. Without you this speaker could never have been released in this state, keep that in mind!

in diesem Lautsprecher muss sehr viel Zeit und Liebe zu einem guten Klang von dir stecken :) Vielen Dank dafür der wird direkt bestellt soweit er On geht =)

MMMM

Olaf, I agree with what you want to achieve here, it sounds great! However I think especially the outdoor mode can be improved. The Shh sounds are too pronounced, it had too much treble at least to my ears, on a neutral monitor system. Even the frequency graph had me wondering why you boosted the level at around 8.5Khz as much? It's a harsh frequency, I would say... however it might sound different in real life, than here. I'm still very impressed with the result. The high bass dip in the outdoor mode is very smart! I will buy it, more than 1, as it sounds very good apart from what I mentioned, it's a steal at 50 ish euros. Let's see how it will sound in different rooms. Can't wait to get at least two. All the best man!

Bin dabei - brauche einen neuen BT-Lautsprecher. Bin auf weitere Infos gespannt.

Are you referring to the measurement or the sound samples? Keep in mind the measurement is done exactly on axis but I had to boost treble to offer more clarity off axis at the same time I had to cut upper treble to avoid intermodulation to become too obvious. There was a compromise to be made and the outdoor mode is rather meant to fight noisy environments and still be able to listen to music. Indoor mode has more refinement but would sound too flat outdoors. Just boosting bass would result in a too muddy sound. I listened a lot and with placement on the ground how you usually use portable speakers outdoors this was the best solution.

MMMM

What you say is correct. As long as you hear it’s the best compromise then everything should be ok. I listened to the whole video, through my calibrated monitors. It’s very true this might be the best outcome, however on-axis outdoors it was a bit too much treble for me, but that’s a minor detail. I only thought it could benefit by reducing the treble a bit. You make the judgment, and you hear it in person, so probably you know it the best. I liked how you said Vifa is in a league of its own. It shows you’re honest, I always liked that about you and your content. Thank you for your hard work!

I love what you are doing. A well defined, neutral, portable listening experience, that I can use for super quiet indoor listening. It's funny though when I had the Bose Flex and the motion plus (heavily PC eq'd since its unlistenable with just app eq) together, everyone prefered the Flex precisely because of the exagerated boominess, which although out of control, does not sound unpleasant. It wasnt until I pointed out certain intricacies and details in their favorite songs that they had not noticed before, that I could convince some people how definition and neutrality is a lot more enjoyable. I don't know, just funny how casual listeners (you know your typical Beats/Airpod user) perceive sound. Thats a great idea though, having a balanced mode, and a more "smiley" outdoor mode, if only it could be marketed more like a high def neutral mode, and a "fun" mode that you can use to match a similar profile like the Bose Flex that will appeal to more of the masses.

That is a great comparison video I think it's an amazing result that you've achieved with the UBOOM L. I have been listening to the comparisons a couple of times and I think it's a really high end sound. Great job! I'm curious getting one because at te moment I don't really have a portable speaker that I enjoy listening music on. I'm mostly listening on the EarFun Free Pro 2.

oluvsgadgets

For me it’s exactly the same. I had stopped using speakers for quite a while but the UBOOM L made me want to listen again as it has a very similar timbre to the Free Pro 2. You should immediately feel at home if you are used to the Free Pro 2. The price is just ridiculous.

D. Oeltermann

Yeah. In the moment I have no need - but the early bird pricing makes me thinking of ordering it just for fun. Thanks Olaf!

Matej

How does the new UBOOM L compare to the original UBOOM? Could you do a comparison or some sorts or have anything to report? I'm thinking of ordering one or two on friday but want to see if it's worth it over the original since I have 2 at home.

Dennis

Really good question i want to know!! I have 2 earfun ubooms too. But i think they are now outdated. And the uboom l way better (i hope so) 1 or 2 uboom vs the earfun L is really interessting. Hope he can Show this compared. But they are now so old i cant believe they are that good like the uboomL. But really good question from you i like to know before i order the uboom L :)

אמיר וייסברוט

can't find the speaker on the internet for sale yet. love what you are doing, i even do not need a portable speaker, or... didn't think i need, but after hearing what you've done with it i must buy it. LOVE you work, ejoy hours of listening with the earfun free pro 2 everyday at my work and do not stop being overwhelmed with how FU***NG good they sound!

oluvsgadgets

I will try to make another comparison, I already shot an upcoming video against the Soundcore Boost, Riva S, 1 more speaker, Kenwood BT77, Sony SRS-XB30 and Audio Pro C3, I can choose the UBOOM and some other speakers next in case there is interest

Dennis

yea nice cheers :),

Olaf it's good to be a hard worker, but don't lose sleep, don't exert yourself. I'm pretty sure perfection isn't reachable, it's too far off for us humans still. As long as you do what you can, take care of important things like family for example, you should be content with that. I'm sure you are doing just that. Yeah the reuploaded video sounds clearer. Tomorrow I will register for two speakers, so I can hear it in stereo, and I can send one as a gift to my friend. It seems like a nice gift to hand. People should be happy with it. I really can't wait to hear it in person! I will give you my honest feedback, if I'm fortunate to get it in June. I hope you don't take me the wrong way, I just wish you, and your family all the best. :)

Foltea Iustin

Hi, Oluv! Can you post please You're wife's playlist from the skating video? I would like it on my electric scooter too. Thank you. Or at least to tell ys the name of the songs

Brad Hendrickson

Thanks for the ongoing work and info, Oluv. Perhaps you could update the post to clarify how we can "subscribe to Earfun's site"?

Miki

can't wait. checking their site all day, but i see nothing yet..

ᗩᗰIGᗩ 500

same here- I think we just have to be patient... 😉🦥

Felix X

i am so happy seeing you Oluv presentig your speaker! that amount of enthusiasm and engagement is just crazy:) ... going to buy a stereo-pair :D

oluvsgadgets

I can only stop when I am fully satisfied , I am fluttered as long as I cannot offer the results I am after.

Valtteri K

Great work! The indoor mode on axis sounds very natural. For off axis oerformance, the JBL Flip 6 seems to get close. I would be interested to hear how UBOOM L compares to the Marshall Stockwell Ii which I think is very pleasant for off axis listening where most others just sound weird.

Miki

Hi Oluv, do you have an update from earfun maybe? Can't wait to order a pair of these.. Thanks!

Roge

Die Zeit geht zu langsam rum, will den Lautsprecher haben

D. Oeltermann

Still waiting to be able to order this speaker. Need one in my attic… Come on Earfun! 😁
