Wanted to give you an update on this matter as I think that I managed to make the new unit perform even better. I am still tweaking as I want to make treble as smooth as possible and I am expecting a new firmware with my latest changes so that I can check how it will perform in various situations.

I should get 2 other final production units soon which I will check for consistency, then the new firmware should be finalised and available for download once the speaker is released.

Yuck the new Emberton sounds atrocious. Looking forward to Earfun launch, they are taking their sweet time. Have they given you any insight into the production of the speaker, what might have changed in the last batch?

According to them there was no change. I assume the drivers from this batch must have changed slightly

I still think the pre production sounds good, sometimes better than the new one (crispier treble). But definitely the original tuning on the new unit sounds harsh on treble, very noticeably.

It's worrying that they can't identify the source of the change. Like have we moved from prototype tooling to final tooling? Have any of the processes changed? It's not just the drivers.

Unsure if I want to preorder. Price is very nice of course. But sound differs too much from what we heard before from the two samples. So probably it might be better to wait and spend 20 bucks more… Strange that they do not know what has changed.

The new one with new tuning definitely sounds better to me. Can really hear the difference in smoothness. Hopefully we the sample variances aren't too big.

So - finally I decided not to pre-order the UboomL. I just ordered a Tribit MaxSoundPlus (upgraded version) on Amazon Germany for roughly 40 Euros. Cannot go wrong with this one for that price. I need a small speaker in my attic mainly to listen to podcasts and some radio stations. Maybe the Earfun will find the way to me later on. 😉

Still, where is the maxsound plus? I think it can compete sound wise,( not bass wise)
