Some days ago, one of you had discovered the new released 050 firmware by Earfun which is supposed to offer more bass than my tuning. I haven't even known about this, but wanted to give it a try and also let you hear how this new version sounds, which has nothing in common with my tuning. But many seem to like it, thus why should I care?

I am just disappointed because as you know I had asked Earfun if I should create a version with more bass, but with proper tuning and volume curve, etc. They didn't want to, but rather released this half hearted approach!

I need better partners in future and am thinking of quitting any collaboration with Earfun.

Earfun UBOOM L - firmware 050, finally with bass! 🔊🔊🔊

Disclaimer: this latest firmware 050 has nothing to do with my tuning and my intents to provide a natural and honest sound, but was issued by Earfun to avoid complaints from people who think they need more bass. I had asked Earfun before, if I should create an additional tuning with a more boosted bass, but they refused, thus I am quite disappointed that this version is neither fish nor fowl, but feel free to try it out if you like it more: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1MI5XiLReotmvD9N0kJKL_q--yb3REeFH Get the Earfun UBOOM L for $60: -25% off discount code valid for the Earfun store: OLUVUBOOML DE/EU: https://bit.ly/Oluv_UBOOMLDE US: https://bit.ly/Oluv_UBOOML4 UK: https://bit.ly/Oluv_UBOOMLUK Other countries: https://bit.ly/Oluv_UBOOML1

Can't wait for whatever your next project is Oluv! That's really annoying that they wouldn't let you tune a more bassy version. I think the lows of the outdoor mode with the highs of the indoor mode (or highs halfway between the 2 modes) would be perfect for me. I would like to try 2 Uboom L's in stereo to see if that skews it in the direction I'm looking for. Does anyone know if I can check/flash the firmware on my Mac if I run a "Windows emulator" type software like this? https://www.parallels.com/pd/windows-on-mac/?gclid=CjwKCAiA0cyfBhBREiwAAtStHP3TuB1r8p1MdieuLscE9xg3lcLCaEwNS_ixJs_auEARp15IPl7jzxoCvRwQAvD_BwE

I just received my Uboom L and its got firmware 045. Is it the same sound as Oluvs tuning … does anybody know?

oluvsgadgets

Everything above 4.0 up to 5.0 should have my tuning. If you don’t encounter any problems with this version I wouldn’t bother to update

Kurt Beyer Hansen

Thx Oluv👍🏻 Yr tuning sounds great. So nice to have a guy like you to lean on. I have - on yr recomendation - bought Bose Soundlink Micro, Jbl partybox 100, Soundcore q30 and now the Earfun and never regretted is for one second!

Yes, you can, I installed Windows 10 Pro on my Mac using Bootcamp, installed the provided application, and was able to downgrade both speakers from 0.50 to 0.43. You can just search on YouTube for something like "install windows on mac", and there will be plenty of step-by-step videos on how to install it for free.

The whole process doesn't seem very serious, right from the start. As a user or owner you don't see any changelogs, you have to question every change yourself. As I said: They should have waited with the release, implemented app support, and then made their mainstream setup available in parallel or via app update. That way, the user could easily change the presets, and the hassle with the FW update procedure would have been avoided. They have already been on the market for a few years; a bit more professionalism would certainly have had a significant impact on the sales figures and the commercial success of the Uboom L. Everything just seems a bit half-baked. Their handling of you and your work gives me a slightly unserious impression and leaves a bad aftertaste. If they let you tune a device, are satisfied with it, advertise it with your name, and bring it to the market, you would think that they are convinced of their product. But the fact that they themselves are not capable of creating such a high-quality setup, but on the contrary turn like a leaf in the wind just because the numbers and isolated reviews do not meet their expectations, proves that they can neither judge high-quality sound, nor create it on their own. This is also proven by the default setting of the in-ears; the new Air S, for example, is still too massive even with maximum reduced bass (-9). Find the treatment of your work already somewhat disrespectful, which implies a certain exploitation of your work. Too bad for you. But don't fret; there are many music lovers who appreciate your work and love the sound of your Uboom L settings. Thanks again for tuning my Audio Technica! Same symptom as with the Free Pro, Free Pro 2, Q30, Uboom L: after listening to your tuning, the other presets just sound wrong. Curious especially how many products are advertised and reviewed with neutral tuning, although the default tuning is miles off. Eigentümer sieht man nirgends changelogs, jede Änderung muss man selbst hinterfragen.

Earfun should let you add "more bass" to your tuning They just made it boomier, softer so it's useless, I don't know what the hell they were thinking... They should at least keeping the power at maximum volume, i think peoples will certainly complain more !

ᗩᗰIGᗩ 500

On the one hand, this happened in a less social way, on the other hand: They do not explicitly promote 0.50, but provide users who are not satisfied with Oluv's tuning with the sound known from the Uboom 360 (indoor and outdoor mode are also reversed). The update is also not without alternative, you have the choice. That the tuner is not included in such decisions is somehow still understandable. However, the fact that he is not at least informed in a decent manner is weak in character.

MMMM

In my experience, as I have 2 uboom Ls they first of all differ a bit in sound. I tried the initial version and the lates version from you, not the 050. I thought that the bass should be in between your versions, with less upper bass, and more deeper bass. However you pretty much did that with the outdoor mode. Though, once in outdoor mode I would like to get less treble, but I like it very much anyway, as the tuning is close to being perfect (subjectively speaking). If it needs some minor tweaks, I can do them myself within Onkyo app, as it has great EQ. In regards to how they treated you, I’m not happy. They should have given you a contract. Maybe next time don’t let to be treated this way, by creating a contract in which you will have your rights specified. It also caused more mess… and indeed as someone mentioned the whole project shouldn’t have been rushed. Half-hearted approch it was too. I’m more than happy with what you do, that’s why I support you, and so do others.

Dirk Stockmann

Ryan Morency

I'd love to see you do a tuning collaboration with Anker (SoundCore). They actually listen to customers and would probably be receptive to working with you.

invincibo

v050 sounds boomy for sure, but objectively speaking, it gives back the vocal presentation I look for. As a user of b&o a1 gen1 for years, and a sound designer of myself that listen to studio monitors everyday, v043/v048 sounds a bit v-curve to me, which makes the vocal sounds thin and far. When I was watching YouTube videos, I heard a lot of sibilants more than the actual words. I hope it's my speaker's QC fault rather than oluv's tunning.

Thankfully, they didn't update automatically 😃

oluvsgadgets

I tried some yes, but didn’t like the others I had heard. They sounded completely different

Heinrich Souza

Is it easy to change the firmware on a unit? If I bought one now, would I be stuck with the new firmware, or could I easily change it myself? Thanks 👍

TriXqAudio

oluv have you taken a look at the moondrop quarks dsp for 15$ witch is a eq verstion of the quarks. fr looks amazing for the price would be cool to see a review

TriXqAudio

also witch firmware provide the most natural sound for the uboom L and if you have it could you plz provide it or do i have to contact earfun for that

TriXqAudio

here is sharurs pair and my seem to mesure the same when i test with tone generator there are some othere graph that look kinda wierd maby its hard to mount them properly to the mesuring rig since they are so small or unit variation?

Kartik Gupta

Yes please oluv which firmware version are you most satisfied with on the Uboom L yourself?

Douwe de Vries

Firmware 0.43 sounds so much better then 0.50 to me. Much more open and less boomy. Pity they didn't let you work on a bass mode.

Mika

I agree, the new one sounds really harsh and thin in comparison.

Artiom Ištuganov

Okay, let's be very blunt here. I like your tunings a lot. Alot. From the first version of Earfun earbuds (don't remember the name) But if the company doesn't want to work with you then just let it be. Maybe someone else would want that. Or maybe it's just more simple to offer users EQ settings for existing products, like Sony or something.

oluvsgadgets

Soundwise there shouldn’t be any difference from 4.1 to 4.8. The changes were all on other aspects, but the setting should have remained the same

oluvsgadgets

Yeah that’s somehow my plan first trying to optimise some common headphones, but having an own product has of course way more value than just some EQ. People will spend 200 bucks for some crappy sounding headphone but paying 10 bucks for an eq is too much.

oluvsgadgets

I only had the normal quarks but didn’t find them to be that great. Why didn’t they EQ them from the beginning?

Artiom Ištuganov

I'm by myself in a "creative" industry and I understand that this stuff is hard. I'm not that into audio to fully grasp what are your creative endeavours here. Because the world (sadly) functions as it functions. My main conclusion would be that maybe it's not the "point" to make an ideal product for like 200$ or 80$. But maybe offer more (not so sophisticated) tunings for like 10$. I would pay 10-20$ for a simple "dont worry, it will sound better" EQ tuning for a popular earphone brand. Like sony or apple.

oluvsgadgets

People think an EQ is achieved quickly but it needs lots of listening, comparative measurements. At the end I am actually optimising it towards my own ear, if someone’s ear differs a lot, the result could maybe even be worse for those than without any correction. Especially with headphones and inears the end result will depend a lot on the individual ear. Thus I can never be sure if my adjustments can really offer an improvement to anyone. I just cannot promise it will sound better even if it does for me and maybe most others but as soon as one’s ear differs much from mine it’s unpredictable

TriXqAudio

im guessing it would be 480 since its mentioned in the .fw files file name on the google drive that oluv had somthing to do with it ?

D. Oeltermann

Just a pity that companies are not really interested in good sounding devices which are affordable. It is just all about selling their crap. That will not change in the future, for sure. Unfortunately….

DS _89

SuperX

Whoever you choose to partner with, I'll support you. I don't have brand loyalty, I have quality loyalty, and I trust you more. All the best.
