Supporting a friend. (Patreon)
Content
Hi all, I want to start off by thanking you all for the support you have given me by being my patrons. Finding Patreon 18 months or so ago, and gaining a support system for my artwork has been a life changing experience for me and has given me opportunities I never thought I could achieve in my life. And since going through this journey I have tried to encourage quite a few people to try for the same kind of freedom and self employment. One of which recently has taken my advice.
My friend (also named James) is a very talented and unique tattoo artist here in Vancouver, Canada, and he recently, like I'm sure many of you have also, lost his job because of the current business shutdown. I spoke to him just the other day when he told me he was looking for design jobs and so I suggested he make his own Patreon page in the meantime because I really enjoy his artwork (I have some in my house) and I thought many others would too.
Since quitting my office job a month ago (I worked in the Visual effects industry here in Vancouver) my general life satisfaction has sky rocketed and I never want to go back to working in an office or to making someone elses artwork. I'm sure many of you have office jobs that you love but also many of you are like me and would much prefer to be doing something else with their time if you had the opportunity. So, I encourage you all, at any time, but especially this time when many of you may be working from home or off work entirely, if you have something in your life that you've always wanted to pursue or create, let this be an opportunity for you. I never thought people would enjoy my artwork enough to want to give me a few dollars a month, but then I tried, and please, you should try too.
So in the grand scheme of things this is a small community, and there may only be a tiny overlap of people who enjoy both of our very niche artworks, but even if there are one or two of you out there that would enjoy my friends artwork or have something of your own that you want to create, I think a message like this is worth it. Go for it!!
