while im not someone who cares that you call it monkey titan, there is actually a reason it is called beast titan and Ben actually unknowingly referred to it. I wont confirm but think about it and see if you can figure it out.

Also when they are all talking about the monkey an interesting detail that is impossible for us English viewers to pick up on is that Eren asks "what is this monkey", apparently the Japanese way of this question is he is asking "What is a monkey". Monkeys dont live in the walls and so Eren has no idea what they are talking about

You can call the monkey titan whatever, you want. Just remember if they refer to him later, it may be named beast. lol. I guess the reason will come later. I think in the castle, Ymir was saying Reiner liked guys and Reiner said that Ymir didn't like guys. Plus a little realization that Ymir knew something. Seb, last épisode after colossal fell down above eren and Reiner . Reiner got eren at his mouth(!!) and berthold appeared in his human form carrying Ymir at his arms … not eren !!! As maybe u think it was

Reiner and Ymir weren't hitting it off, they were both calling each other out for not being interested in the opposite sex. Ymir has shown she clearly has a crush on Historia.

Also the scene where Ymir says monkey, and Eren asks "What's that? A monkey?" makes more sense in Japanese. Monkey in Japanese is "saru" and is written in kanji (猿). When Ymir says it, Japanese subtitles show the kanji, but when Eren says it, it's shown in katakana which is for foreign words or sounds. Basically Eren says monkey as "mon-key" because he's never heard that word before.

What are you talking about? That's the Crunchyroll translation that 90%+ of people use when watching AoT. Nothing is wrong with the subs. The subs never say he has split personality you are supposed to get that with his actions and what he says.

It directly reveals a little something about the other 3 people by providing a bit of extra monkey-trivia which is not known information given on the show to neither Japanese or English viewers. You give a reason Eren doesn't know what a monkey is, and the others do, that reason is not a language thing, it's using knowledge that hasn't been revealed. It's a rewatchers fun fact for those who know the titbit or speaks Japanese, and a spoiler for first timers who can put 2 and 2 together. Not a super big deal, but it is what it is.
