yeees Finally! I've been waiting for this

Zy Zizi

YEAY...THE HIGHEST RATING KOREAN DRAMA ON IMDB

Shooky

I subscribed to the patreon just to watch this reaction. Yey!

Kdrama Lover

Hoping for Strong Woman Do Bong Soon next 🤞🙏

sim🧚🏻‍♀️

i knew you guys would get confused on the time jumps, IU is the young (main character) and also HER OWN daughter when she grows up, so whenever the time skips IU is the daughter just because they wanted her to look exactly like her mother, they really said “why don’t just use the same actress to impersonate the mom and the daughter” lol

Mild

Omg thanks Seb, you understand her ❤️

Mild

Being a women at any time Is so hard, at the 60's our rights were nothing. No aspirations, nothing at all

Mild

She wanted to learn, be a professional, go to the capital, have money, just like her mother wanted too

Yennhi

gwan-sik is 19 ae sun is 18 korean age so to convert in international age they will be gwan sik 17-18 y/o and ae sun 16-17 y/o and they’re still minor and is in high school for the future as you watching kdrama keep in mind why 19-20 y/o kids are still in highschool is because they’re using korean age system

Mira

Seb's right when he says Aesun had a tough life and GwanSik is clearly her comfort person. I'm kinda annoyed with the other two because it seems like you guys don't get it, Aesun was around 16 or 17 years old this time, so she's clearly immature. And Gwansik knows she didn't mean it when she said all that to him.

gaby

FOR A REASON 😭❤️🤞

gaby

Guys IU plays both young aesun AND the daughter of aesun in the future

Jaisshhii

CHEAT CODE: So you won’t be confused. IU is playing two characters here. Ae Sun and Gwangsik and their daughter (the one on the couch). There’s a lot of time skipping between Ae Sun and Gwangsik’s teenage to marriage life and the life of their children. Also, it seems like you still don’t get the main plot of the story. There’s no plot really here it a spice of life genre. No big events or revenge plot but a story of how hard life for them is and I’m sure this will make you cry. If you cried for TW then you will bawl your eyes out here.

Swapna

IU played both Young mother and daughter post time jump. Also certain episodes have post credit scenes as far as I remember, maybe you can check it out.

lomoko

Seb is the only one with emotional understanding here 😭 the fact that y'all gave a timeline for getting over the death of her mother too gag

Mira

I agree. IU really is a very pretty lady. Talented too

Mira

Fr 😭 i hope they won’t be too hard on her in episode 3

rania

To kinda explain why young Ae sun gives a hard time to gwansik and she doesn’t necessarily play nice is because that was always her character and personality with him since they were young. She’s always had banters and insults towards him, and he never says anything because he’s just a fool in love but knows she doesn’t really mean a lot of it and just because they suddenly kissed and started “dating” doesn’t mean she can suddenly stop having this personality with him and become lovey dovey

Shay Peart

Lol and so it starts. where do I know her from..... looks like the character from my name..... I almost choked on my drink laughing. Also, IU plays younger AeSun and AeSun's daughter. It is to show how daughter and mother have a lot of resemblances. You also just finished twinkling watermelon where the mother in the past and daughter in the future look alike and is played by the same actress.

Yoongiless

You guys have to understand that she is living in a time when women were not considered or expected to be individuals or have independant thoughts, Ae-Sun had dreams of becoming a poet, studying literature and go to college in a time when her demanding to be educated was laughed upon, her dreams had been negated and frowned upon so many times by the society that Gwan-Sik actually supporting her as a man genuinely made her question him because the society that she had always been a part of had almost never seen a man who would behave with a woman the way that Gwan-Sik is behaving with her

Martina

SEB IS RIGHT

Etain

It's kind of funny how Seb is the one who's most emotionally in tune with the main character when usually he is most immature of the group LOL. Also very pleasantly surprised that you guys caught on to most of the nuances of their actions and dialogues, because sometimes you guys do get side tracked haha. So glad you guys are enjoying this though

Pat R

Yes, you guys are so right! Now this takes a turn and you just want to keep watching. It keeps getting better. IU and Park Bo Gum are such talented actors.

Faith Linssel Domingo

Take note that IU plays dual roles: the spirited young adult Oh Ae-sun and her ambitious daughter, Yang Geum-myeong which was shown in the future timeline here where she is actually the one you're curious about that seems familiar. Coz she's also IU hahahaha. not a different actress.

Faith Linssel Domingo

Also, Oh Ae-sun is also the goat in this love story. Both of them are the standards when it comes to love, parenting, and even as friends. Of course they're both young in this episode that's why you have to understand where Ae-sun is getting her tantrums at. Just be more understanding of her character most importantly she's to young for all of these challenges.

C⁷💜

Seb is right about Ae-sun. She’s grown up having to be tough, and that has shaped the way she expresses herself and deals with her emotions. She can be stubborn, sarcastic, and even harsh with her words, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t appreciate or love Gwan-sik. And the thing is, Gwan-sik knows all of this. He’s grown up alongside her, seen her struggles, and understands her better than anyone. He’s not some guy who’s only just getting to know her personality. He knows exactly who she is and still wants to spend his life with her. I think it’s important to understand why Ae-sun behaves the way she does rather than just judging her by the things she says. That doesn’t mean everything she says is okay, but there’s a lot more depth to her character than that.

noel

loving that seb is catching on with their dynamic !can’t wait to watch ep3 with you guys this was such an amazing show overall

Ave 🇵🇭

OhI just hope they will read this 🙏🏻

TRX

Guys, obviously she loves him. She’s lashing out because she’s having an internal conflict with her feelings towards him vs her ambition of wanting to leave the island and have more for herself!!! And he understands

Fern Edwards

If I were you I'd google the female runaway prevention period, it's a real thing ! This show captures what it was like to be a woman at this time

Margi

I hope they read every comment because you guys are explaining things so well💗 10/10 comment section

Margi

Seb's emotional intelligence is showing here ✨

Kay

yeah you really have to remember Aesun had a rough life and she’s an immature teenager. she grew up on tough love from her mom, remember y’all thought her mom was harsh with her in the beginning only to find out her mom deeply cares about her and was pushing her away bc she thought Aesun’s life would be better that way. what were seeing now with how Aesun interacts with Gwansik is the product of the environment in which she was raised in, she gives him tough love bc thats what she grew up with. not saying you should like everything she does but just know that there’s reasons for everything. (ones who already watched, will know why im saying this specifically lol) this show does a good job in NOT making characters or situations one dimensional, there’s a lot of nuance, that’s the beauty of this show.

Margi

Ae-sun was basically homeless at 17 as a women in 1967, so I think her behavior is quite valid

khloee

IU is the other actress that was on the couch too! she plays her own daughter in the future kinda lol

Dntlrd

why would the pain not be from her mom??

wes

I just realised she mentioned having conception dream 💀

Ohoh

Seb understood her so well, the other two will understand in a few episodes

Isa

Yess Seb knows whats up haha

Are you a taco

Omg faster uploads please I’m LOVING that you guys are LOVING this show. Getting me pumped!!!!

Iza_Bella

I REALLY HOPE THEY READ COMMENTS 😔

tbh im between both povs on aesun. shes v bratty for sure but shes also very soft at times. she grew on me and become my favorite character later on. I think shes that bratty bc shes known him even as a child? the only thing I can compare it to is that I tend to be a little childish around my mom but to others im very "mature" or "poised". so maybe bc shes known him for so long she also sometimes reverts back to or he brings that side of her out.

jenn sanchez

I did find her hard to follow in the beginning though so I dont think ur perspectives are weird at all. and tbh even if I never found her hard to digest id just be interested in hearing more on ur perspectives as well. since I pay for it :D everyone should remember to be a lil more open to different opinions and also if ur paying for this and hating....just stop? 😭

Honestly, I agree with Charlie and Ben on this. Found it really hard to watch this show because of her personality, but the show is literally everywhere. I understand that it was hard to be a woman during this time and that she's had a hard life, and she can express her dislike for the injustice she has experienced. What I do not like is that she is treating the one person who is nice to her and cares for her the same way she treats those who have wronged her. But I get it, she's a teenager, just felt like they could have softened her a little bit because it is hard to root for her in my opinion. I like that the guys are honest about how they feel about the character.

crnrds

IU plays the daughter AND the mom on the show!

Hayoung JO

Here is the explanation on Female runaway prevention period. It really happened in the late 60s in South Korea. This is a nationwide initiative organized annually by the Ministry of Health and Welfare of the Republic of Korea from April 11 to 30, beginning in 1968. These women did not run away from home to have affairs; rather, with no other way to make a living, they headed to Seoul with nothing but a single suitcase, completely penniless. Clinging to the false hope that they could somehow make a living in Seoul, they waited for night to fall. Huddled in their seats on the night train, they waited to arrive at Noryangjin Station, Yongsan Station, or Seoul Station. Teenage and twenty-something women who came to Seoul either found work as housekeepers in affluent homes or settled into factory dormitories, but those who lost out in the competition began their lives in Seoul by taking jobs as conductors at city bus terminals on the outskirts. The county office established “Women’s Counseling Centers” and, in coordination with the police, cracked down on women at train stations and bus terminals to prevent them from heading to Seoul.

jjangji

I highly recommend watching the recent Korean drama *100 Days of Lies*! It’s a series that deals with a painful chapter in South Korea’s history—please, do give it a watch!

Rinakin

Ben: "Where do we know her from" the way I burst out laughing ahhahahahahah

Rinakin

I actually love the fact that I am watching this show with 3 guys in their 20s, bc I have only watched with my girlfriends and I REALLY enjoy your guys perspective. and Ben and Chuck being lowkey annoyed with Aesun over how she treats Gwansik is EXACTLY how I felt about it, and all of my friends had the same opinion as Seb lol

Rinakin

A little fun fact for you guys: Park Bogum, the actor playing Gwansik is one of the oldest friends of Taehyung :))) They have been very close friends for like 10 years now. he is one of the first friends Tae had from the industry and he has been incredibly loyal and supportive of Tae and of BTS. They are still super close. And they are both ambassadors to Celine, so they often go to fashion events together and it's super cute. IU is close with both Tae and Yoongi, so this deff make me like the show even more

lexie

lol yea shes mean to him all the time but it is her love language. seb is right. shes like a cat. u know deep down she rlly does love him wt all her heart

❣️ Vladlena ❣️

“Wow! This is queen treatment!” about Gwan-sik is so real! “Is this a time jump?” — Focus, Charlie, focus! You need to be locked in, because this show has a lot of time jumps back and forth! “Where do we know her from?” about IU when she first appeared on screen as Geum-myeong was hilarious! 😅😅

❣️ Vladlena ❣️

It’s so funny to me how almost all the reactors, especially the men, get frustrated with Ae-sun in this particular episode and feel bad for Gwan-sik! But I’m glad at least Seb understood why Ae-sun behaved the way she did. “That’s her comfort person, but she has a very tough life.” — Seb really hit the nail on the head with that! 👏👏👏 And yes, not all people are simple! I was honestly surprised by how thoughtful Seb’s analysis of Ae-sun was! Not enough people give Ae-sun the grace she deserves in the first few episodes.

Bingewatcher

W Seb at 33:50, he understood emotional depth of the show. Ben is there too.
