By the way! The guy who plays the autistic guy is the same guy that interviewed RM and V on his show. BDSN. You reacted to it

Around the 45-minute mark, when you mention the upbeat music playing while Young-woo and Jun-ho are searching the brother’s room, I wanted to share my perspective. As someone who wrote their bachelor’s thesis on autism in girls, I actually think the music is quite appropriate. From Young-woo’s perspective, she’s completely focused on finding clues and solving the case. She might not be fully processing the emotional weight of what they’re discovering in that particular moment, as her attention is directed toward finding answers. That doesn’t mean she lacks empathy or doesn’t care. Autistic people can experience and express empathy differently, and I think Young-woo’s way of showing respect and empathy might actually be through her determination to solve the case and uncover the truth. I also think it’s important to remember that while the legal cases are a big part of the show, the main storyline is really about understanding Woo Young-woo as a person and seeing the world through her perspective, rather than simply solving cases. To me, the upbeat music reflects her eagerness and determination to find answers, rather than the seriousness of what they’re discovering. I don’t think the show is trying to make light of the situation. Instead, I think it’s a deliberate storytelling choice that allows us to experience the moment through Young-woo’s perspective rather than our own.

58:50 - I actually interpreted the mother’s reaction a little differently. To me, it seemed like she was expressing grief for the life she had once imagined her son would have, rather than suggesting that she doesn’t love or accept him for who he is. Although autism is present from early development, children aren’t necessarily diagnosed at birth, and parents may spend years hoping their child will reach certain developmental milestones. Perhaps she spent years hoping that one day her son would be able to communicate verbally or become more independent. I think seeing Young-woo, an autistic woman who has become a successful lawyer and lives a relatively independent life, might have brought up some complicated emotions for her. Autism is a spectrum, and while some autistic people become largely independent, others may require significant support throughout their lives. To me, the mother’s reaction felt less like a rejection of her son and more like a moment of sadness as she comes to terms with a future different from the one she had envisioned. Grieving an imagined future is not necessarily the same as grieving the child themselves. I think it’s possible for a parent to deeply love and accept their child while still struggling with those feelings.
