In elementary school, I got a stomach ache during a camping trip so my dad went to the camp supply store and picked up some Pepto Bismol. I drank about half the dose, hated the taste, and discreetly got rid of the other half. When my stomach ache came back, my dad confronted me about whether I had taken the full dose and demanded I take the other half, dismissing my protests as me being a dramatic little baby. Years later, I was visiting him for the holidays and got a stomach bug so I asked him to go pick up some Pepto Bismol, which had become my go-to solution. He grimaced and said, "Ew, that stuff is rough. I don't know how you can stand it, I can't do it." I wanted to strangle him. Bonus story: on that same trip, we got assigned a site on the edge of a cliff, like one side of the site had a sheer drop of at least 100 feet. The very first thing my little brother did was run over and stand with his toes at the edge.

My son was going through treatment for cancer (he unfortunately passed last March) so we had to make frequent trips down to Indianapolis for his cancer treatments. This story takes place on the way home one time. It’s the dead of summer, super hot. We are heading home after another round of treatments, and are just under halfway when my car AC decides to give up the ghost. Ok, that sucks, so we pull off and run to Walmart to find cooling options which aren’t great but get the job done. Fast forward a half hour, and we then proceed to get stuck in heavy traffic, meaning that any air running through the car is no longer moving, and we were MISERABLE for the last hour of the trip.

That does sound miserable! Hopefully you were able to at least be hydrated. Also I'm so sorry for your loss. Fuck cancer. - Nick

Oh we got plenty of water for sure! For anyone interested, I stream on twitch Tuesdays and Sundays at 8 Eastern to raise money for the Children’s Oncology Group in memory of my son! All donation sizes are welcome!
