Been looking forward to this… (but apparently some of my memories are confused)

I loved Maggie getting in on the job (and sniffed by Parker lol.) Nate wasn't being quiet in the background of the call, I'm assuming she heard. The "date" was still funny af. Sterling knows how to benefit for himself and I love him being a weird mirror for Nate. Nate and Maggie getting revenge was so satisfying. I loved Eliot's ongoing pissyness with Sophie, because he really liked being on the team, even though he acts like he wants to kill Hardison most of the time. They did in fact do the ending in case there wasn't a next season. Can't wait for your reaction to the season 2 opener.

Kari Matchett and Timothy Hutton killed that confession scene. I've seen these episodes many, many times and it's still heartbreaking. Sophie and Maggie bonding makes me very happy (especially given Sophie's initial reaction to her) . Poor Nate, the rest of his team have adopted his ex-wife as their actual "honest" friend (vs Nate himself who is a real thief now even if he'd still protest). Sterling: "Of course, you know your entire plan depended on me being a self-serving, utter bastard." Nate: "Hmm. Yeah, that's a stretch." Nate denied it last episode but you get the sense during all this that these two *were* genuinely friends at one point. Possibly (probably) a bit toxic but still friends. You're right, when this episode was written they still didn't know they were going to get picked up and the creators/writers wanted to make sure the story still had an actual ending if they weren't, hence that last scene and how they wrapped up some of the character stuff during this episode. Co-creator John Rogers really does not like the "traditional" sort of cliffhanger, the 'tune in next year to see if your favorite character just died/completely ruined their life/etc, etc' (thank God).

To echo everyone else... Kari Matchett is a delight as Maggie. You also saw her in the Pilot to 'Covert Affairs'. And Sterling is the perfect foil / frenemy.
