No spoilers but this might help you understand something about Alias. It began three years before Lost and the explosion of internet interest in the twists and turns of every episode in a series. ABC didn’t trust that the audience was capable of following the plot. It was concerned that if a viewer missed one of these early episodes, it could be hard to follow the plot going forward. And they feared it would be hard for viewers turning on the show for the first time after the pilot to catch up. Thus, the insisted on a mid-season one clip show to help viewers come up to speed. For the same reason, the show begins with the Sydney voiceover about who she is, what SD 6 is all about, and how Sydney came to the realm CIA after Danny’s murder. I’ve always said that Alias had some of the worst luck and timing of any show in history. If it had started a few years later, I think the internet would have seized on the show like it did Lost. This won’t be the only time ABC execs meddled with the show. But as I said, no spoilers.
