I'm sure each of us is sensitive to inaccuracies in our own specialties in a show like this, and otherwise they pass us by. So, from my music-professor viewpoint, this one had some doozies. (I do love the episode, as I do the whole series. Still, facts are facts.) The composer, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, is never called just "Korsakov," as Sophie did. The violin solo doesn't happen just at the very end of the work, it's sprinkled all the way through the four movements. And it's never performed with a guest artist to play the solos as if it were a concerto: they're done by the first-chair player (UK: leader; US: concertmaster) within the orchestra. I suppose we could imagine, for that last point, that it was a specially arranged concert to honor this "student" -- but he would still be playing the lengthy solos all the way through, not just at the end. We did not hear Aldis Hodge playing; he has studied the instrument, but not to the level needed to make this solo sound good. But his experience enabled him to finger and bow it correctly. The editing didn't always sync him up perfectly with the prerecorded solo, but that's not his fault.
