i love how you said everyone *should* have some sense of fear i absolutely agree - having the ring is less about being "fearless" and more about having the power to overcome fear which i think is something johns parents misunderstood and is going to be such an interesting part of john's character

i agree this is such a sad life, when he said "i grew up missing them" my whole heart sank. ive seen a lot of discourse surrounding his relationship with his parents and if we're "supposed to like them" since he is on the bed and says he'd stay as long as she lets him, but john literally says in the episode "we love those who raise us even if they're crazy" like the dynamic between an abused child and their parents is so very nuanced and not black and white at all, especially if john hasnt fully processed the way he was raised to be "wrong" yet.

this was such a beautiful episode written by Vanessa Baden Kelly i think it added so much depth to johns background including the racial elements, and im a sucker for a good back story ep and especially loved how it was told to us through the interview! i especially loved how the guardians came to john when he was at school pursuing his actual passion and not while he was in the military doing the thing he thought he was supposed to do oh my i could takl about this episode for hours!! but ill just end by saying this has been so fun to watch along with you!!

I've enjoyed your comments of me going through this. It's exciting with me not being as knee deep of a GL fan but this series is hooking me so much and all three episodes have been bangers and so different. I am glad I made the choice to check this out because this is so fun.
