Roughly once a month, I'm gonna watch and review an anime recommended by one of my Patreon supporters for ProZD Watches Anime. Reply to this post with an anime you think I should watch. Please include how many episodes the anime is (ex: Bocchi the Rock (12 episodes)), the shorter the anime, the more likely it will be chosen. You can also recommend anime movies if you'd like.

here's a list of every anime I've already watched: https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/MyAnime/?user=ProZD&categ=3

Even if you've submitted recommendations on previous posts, consider this post the brand new slate for suggestions (since this will be for the new channel).

Hajime no Ippo: Fighting Spirit if you want a solid sports anime. Music is great, has a nice dub and sub, and the dub is free on a YouTube playlist. It is 75 episodes tho, but I consider it highly worth it

Zenshu (12ish episodes) - Self-obsessed animation director gets transported into the world of her favourite grim dark fantasy movie from childhood with the power to "scribblenauts" random creations to help alter the fates of the characters she loves. With consequences. Very cool portrait of artistic inspiration with one of the COOLEST "magical-girl" transformations ever! Akudama Drive (12ish episodes) - what if "Children Of Men" but in "Blade Runner-esque" scifi future. Wacky cast of characters with an adorable lead MC and crazy scifi machinations with a banger OP. Very cool aesthetic and bittersweet story. Girls Band Cry (13 episodes) - A new benchmark for 3D anime character acting with a punk rock attitude wrapped nicely around a surprisingly mature take on reclaiming personal identity and self-respect in the face of painful circumstances. EDIT: Ok having now seen the watched list: Wonder Egg Priority (13 episodes) - One of the greatest "first halves" of any TV show I've ever seen. Stunningly animated, wildly original. Genius usage of "flower language" and character design. Horrifically challenging and melancholy with few moments of levity. Then the second half of the show happens.........=( Lets just say huge production delay problems and a baffling (and occasionally downright insulting) story arc really throws the whole thing off the rails by the end. A masterpiece in the making that really falls apart at the end but unforgettable nonetheless. VIVY Fluorite Eye's Song (13 episodes) - What if Terminator was a theme park idol and then spent a century fighting anime Skynet and learning to write original music along the way. A very touching scifi-epic with a killer OST. Carole And Tuesday (24 episodes) - Basically Watanabe 100% predicting where music would end up with genAI years before it actually happened. An ode to human artists trying to be heard figuratively and literally in a world of souless AI slop music. Incredible original music + ridiculously prophetic vision of the future of art + eclectic cast of silly characters = one of Watanabe's most underrated works

^ Seconding Revue Starlight. And if you watched and enjoyed it I recommend the movie (Shoujo☆Kageki Revue Starlight Movie, 2hrs) as well. :)

Sage

Deca-dence (12 episodes). Post-apocalyptic anime about a scrappy young girl and her jaded mentor, her optimism vs his hopelessness and how they spur each other on. Also lots of silly little guys you will like. Origin: Spirits of the Past (movie). I’m not recommending this because it is a great movie, but it is an interesting one. This was Gonzo’s attempt to eat Studio Ghibli’s lunch (it is a lot like Castle in the Sky) and while a lot the story beats and aesthetics are close, the story is too bog-standard shonen to be its own thing. I still think it has interesting world building concepts.

Izer

Kaguya: Love is War

Whitman Johnson

From the New World (25 episodes) - the animation is a little rough at points (especially episode 5), but this far future coming-of-age story is some of the best sci-fi I've ever seen

Keanu

The Stranger by the Shore (60 minute movie, on crunchyroll)

Michael H.

Not short one but just the main one I enjoy recommending: Tiger & Bunny! Two 25 episode seasons with two movies in between (one a recap special that’s still really good, the other a time gap filler between the first and second seasons). I know it’s longer so less likely for you to get to it, but a super fun binge and a show I wish more people discussed in English speaking anime communities. Though it’s on Netflix, please watch things before the second season on pirating or on on a streaming site that retains the company brands on the hero’s suits. This is important to the story as they’re heroes competing on a reality show, and the intros look bad with the logos removed as they are for things pre season 2 on Netflix. excited to see whatever you watch!

Lyndsay Castillo

I see you don't have My Dress Up Darling season 2 on your list! 12 episodes. Unless it's the entire show, then sorry.

Eric

Umamusume Pretty Derby: Beginning of a New Era (Movie, 108 minutes) You mentioned you liked the "sports anime" angle of Umamusume and this movie is really all kill and no fill in that regard. Very good movie.

Matthew Waldinger

Buddy Daddies 12 episodes. Only 1 season, action comedy and slice of life.

Mahdi Muhib

Shangri-la Frontier S1 (25 eps) and Dr. Stone S1 (24 eps). Both phenomenal shows

Stanley Chan

3-gatsu no Lion (2 seasons, 11 episodes each)

yodizzle

The Summer Hikaru Died (12 Episodes, Netflix). A wonderfully emotional mystery/horror anime. When I wasn't emotionally destroyed (in the best way possible), I was incredibly intrigued by the growing mystery in the show. I like both the Sub and Dub, but honestly the original Japanese is phenomenal!

Alis

Gnosia, ongoing and likely to be 21 episodes total.

Catherine Yu

My Boss is Goofy: 1 season, 12 episodes!

Jonathan Negron

Hajime no Ippo. The first season is about 76 episodes long, but man do the episodes just fly by once you sit down to watch it. Rarely feels slow. Great pacing!

Michael H.

I also think the English dub for this show is fantastic and I actually enjoy it more than the original myself!

Derek Lang

Orb: On the Movements of the Earth 25 Episodes Ran 2024-2025 Series is complete (ie: Adaptation is complete) Unrelated: I see you've watched Legend of the Galactic Heroes already. I just finished it. Would love to see your take on it/your review on it.

Ironwolf

GUNDAM STUFF!!!! My top 3 recommendations for Gundam shows are: 1. Gundam Wing, Honestly a Gold Standard for Gundam media. (50 episodes, with two in the middle for recap so 48 really) 2. G-Gundam, from the same era as Wing, but MUCH weirder and campier. It's a bit like if Dragonball was a Gundam show. (also 50 episodes with 2 recaps) 3. 08th MS Team, A shorter series but one of the most emotional and beautifully drawn, it's definitely one of the best. (12 episodes)

Tori Williams

Sanda (12 episodes) because I think if it wasn't locked away in Amazon Prime hell it would have exploded in the same way Dandadan did, Science Saru does an incredible job as always.

Caiden

-Arakawa Under the Bridge (26 episodes) -Some of Doraemon (there are a TON of episodes, but it's slice of life and mostly episodic, so you can pretty much watch a sample of episodes to get a sense of most of the series) (all versions are great) -Japan Sinks: 2020 (10 episodes) (it's an ONA) -Occult Academy (13 episodes) -When Marnie Was There (a movie) -The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (a movie) -Mirai (a movie) -Big Fish and Begonia (a movie) -Fireworks (a movie) -The Legend of Hei (a movie) -The Legend of Hei II (a movie) -The Glassworker (a movie) -ARCO (a movie) -Brand New Animal (12 episodes) -Inuyashiki (11 episodes) -Pokemon: Lucario and the Mystery of Mew (might not hold up to memory, and it's not a masterpiece or anything, being a Pokemon movie; still, curious to hear how you feel about it) -Pokemon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea (same note as the previous one)

Cjnchimaera

Seconding Akudama Drive. Funnily enough, SungWon's in the dub, but it's not on the list, so...

Cjnchimaera

Summertime Rendering (25 episodes) Akudama Drive (12 episodes)

Luce

In This Corner of the World! It's a movie about a girl during WWII, I personally found it more touching than Grave of the Fireflies

hoodieinthecorner

From the New World (25 episodes, 2012) This story explores a future Japan where all humans are psychics, and society has completely changed. The main cast of children accidentally discover some unsettling truths about the society they live in and the current state of humanity. It is a fascinating watch and the ending really pays off.

Spencer Davis

Heavenly Delusion (13 episodes) is one I really enjoyed

Masterdramon

VIVY: FLUORITE EYE’S SONG Year: 2021 Episodes: 13 Available On: Crunchyroll Studio: WIT Studio Director: Shinpei Ezaki Writer/Creator: Shinpei Nagatsuki I’ve described this show before as “Terminator if it starred Hatsune Miku.” An AI travels back in time to try and avert a coming robot apocalypse, and recruits the earliest self-aware robot to assist him…which happens to be Vivy, a singing android at an amusement park. What follows is a sprawling sci-fi epic set across 100 years of technological and societal advancement, smoothly blending deeply personal drama for the various humans and AIs Vivy meets, fantastically animated action, and the slow-burn mystery of how the looming apocalypse seems hell-bent on coming to pass despite any changes to the timestream. All while centering the story on Vivy’s own journey toward self-actualization and understanding of her purpose. If you’ve seen a lot of robot-centric sci-fi, you’ve definitely seen most of the tropes VIVY plays with, but I’d argue it’s one of the best I’ve seen at executing them. While I don’t see it on your watchlist, fans of Nagatsuki-san’s most famous work RE:ZERO will find a lot of similarities in how he plays with genre conventions and lends depth to overworn concepts. Stupendous animation and especially music (from Satoru Kōsaki, composer of HARUHI SUZUMIYA, LUCKY STAR, BEASTARS, and THE APOTHECARY DIARIES) definitely help a lot in that regard. I’d personally say it competes only with ODDTAXI for 2021 Anime of the Year, and coming from me that’s high praise indeed. I definitely hope you take it under consideration!

Bran Garbaj

Okay I have a few, starting with a "you should finish this" instead as it seems you stopped watching My Hero Academia at season 4, despite having marked all four of those seasons as the highest rating, and it remains just as good if not better throughout (imo, some others disagree) And then two series with sort of similar vibes, that being battle shonen with unique power systems, a mix of dark themes and lightheartedness/comedy, and a super endearing cast of characters: Gachiakuta (24 eps) and Undead Unluck (24 eps and a special) both of which have a second season in the works UU has a bit of a rocky first episode, but after that it gets a lot better And for more of a short and sweet feel, Ya Boy Kongming! (12 episodes) is a wholesome anime about a strategist from the Three Kingdoms era of China being transported into modern times and ending up as the manager for an upcoming idol One I'm very shocked you haven't seen considering you're in it, Odd Taxi (13 episodes) is a genuine masterpiece of interwoven stories (ok nevermind I searched it with a space but it's listed without one on that website, but I'm still including this recommendation for anyone else reading my comment)

Tess

Akiba Maid Wars (12 Episodes) - It remagines Yakuza stories where the location is Akihabara and the Yakuza groups are the maid café organizations. Its wears its concept with honor and its a fun time that such a good mix of absurdist comedy and gripping drama.

Jae Gungriff

I'm going to recommend Gunsmith Cats again. Only 3 Episodes. It's about two lady bounty hunters in Chicago and has some of best realistic gunfights in animation. Also has one of the most bizarre jazz-inspired OSTs I've ever heard and the dub for it is considered to be vastly better than the original Japanese audio. That's pretty rare in a community, isn't it? Riding Bean is a prequel (sort of) to it and it's pretty good too, though more or a short film or pilot episode than a actual movie.

Scott Reynolds

Boogiepop Phantom (12 episodes). It's a late night psychological thriller (maybe horror?) show from 2000. Two of my other favorite, similar, shows are on your watched list and you rated them completely differently. You gave Serial Experiments Lain a 'worst ever' and Paranoia Agent a 'Masterpiece'. Based on that I'm genuinely curious where Boogiepop will land.

Blake hutcheson

Fruits basket (2019) S1 (25 eps) an absolute masterpiece of a show would be surprised if it doesn’t get you hooked. Yugioh GX Dub (the first season is 52 eps but I would just love to hear you laugh about how silly the 4 kids Dub is) The daily life of the immortal king Season 1 (13 eps) this one really surprised me I enjoyed the magic and school life aspects built a fun narrative that gets you interested in continuing to watch. Dr. Stone Season 1 (25 episodes) SO GOOD worth the watch don’t know if later seasons live up to the hype but the first season is really good! Yu yu Hakasho (the whole show is 112 eps but I would love to know your thoughts on the first arc which is 25 episodes)

Spectrum

Scrapped Princess (24 episodes) is one I'll always have a soft spot for. I think most people think it's just 'fine' but I thought it did what it wanted to well.

Matthew Ely

Patlabor 2 (movie) It's great as a standalone. No need to see other stuff from the series. It's Oshii's film before Ghost in the Shell, so it's interesting to see him tackle a more grounded sci-fi world here. Banger OST. It's complex enough to reward rewatches, and the mix of action and mystery hits just right for me.

Caiden

I feel Serial Experiments Lain has issues, but the opening and outro are good, the animation is decent, the avant garde style is cool, and it feels like a time capsule of late 90s, early 2000s society. Plus, it does feel artisan and different, despite the writing being very confusing and not aging well.

Holden B. Huffman

The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. (2016) Just a wonderful semi slice of life of a psychic high schooler trying to live a normal and peaceful life but if constantly bothered by his friends and family and always ends up in shenanigans.

Anubis 1101

Shinsekai Yori (From the New World) - 25 episodes - Thriller, mystery Don't read a synopsis, they usually contain spoilers. Just use the first episode as a litmus test for the whole series. It's one of my all-time favorite series, and all I will say about the plot is that it will surprise you, even on rewatches. Also, DO NOT read the manga. It's not entirely without its merit, but... it's not the same kind of story at all, and I'd only recommend it if you really loved the anime and are curious about it. Great Pretender - 23 Episodes + Razbliuto movie - Comedy, action Fun actiony adventure about con men who specialize in conning other con men. Watch the first episode with the English dub- they did amazing with it! Sadly they didn't keep it up and it's better to switch to the original Japanese after that. Wagnaria!! (Working!!) - 13 episodes per season, 3 seasons - Slice-of-Life, comedy, romance A rare romcom good enough to entrap even me, who's not much of a fan of that genre. Great characters, great OPs, all-around good time. Hoozuki no Reitetsu (Hozuki's Coolheadedness) - 13 episodes - Comedy First season is an incredibly fun and stylistic story about an overly capable demon bureaucrat in the Japanese underworld. With great comedy and one of the best "traditionally Japanese" art styles I've ever seen in anime, I think the 1st season is easily a must-watch. I am honestly less enthusiastic about the 2nd season, but luckily, it's not a very story-driven series, so there's no need to push yourself to finish it.

Fishsticxz

taiho shichau zo/you're under arrest 1994 OVA, 4 episodes. super silly cop show, famous for the "ummm eeto... blehh" meme. gongeous 90's animation we all love

Izer

Blood Blockade Battlefront S1: Same author as Trigun, for context. The first season's only 12 episodes, and even if you haven't seen the anime itself, you've probably seen its first ending in some parody.

Mel

Pet Shop of Horrors (4 episodes) - an LA detective investigates mysterious deaths linked by the pet shop all the victims recently patronized.

Soulpiece

Girls band cry, 13 episodes. Idol band show, written by the steins; gate anime writer.

Cadmon Alima

"Zenshuu." feels like something with your kind of vibes. Wanna see your take on "mono". Same with "See You at the Food Court Tomorrow", only a half season show so easy to get done quick.

Gentleman Gamer

May I Ask For One Final Thing? ( 13 episodes) - a villainess anime with lots of over-the-top villains getting clobbered. Lots of catharsis From Bureaucrat to Villainess (12 Episodes )- a 52 year old nerdy but wholesome dad gets isekai-d into the villainess of an otome game... and he's never played one himself. Hilarity ensues. Horimiya (13 episodes) - a down-to-earth teen rom-com. Honestly, I like how grounded the show feels; both the romance and the funny bits feel very true to life. Laid Back Camp (12 Episodes)- cute girls go on several winter camping trips. Very chill, and a great show to watch to unwind before bed.

rudolfpikel

I'd be very interested to hear what you'd think of Heike Monogatari/The Heike Story which is an eleven episode adaptation of the Heike Monogatari, a 14th century oral epic which covers the 12th century Genpei War, in many ways essentially Japan's Iliad. Contrary to the expectation that probably sets what I love so much about the show is that, instead of being an epic war story, it takes a very grounded and character centric approach to exploring this time period and the historical figures tangled in it. That isn't so surprising though given that it's a Yamada Naoko directed work. It's always about the characters with her and that results here in what I find to be a very human and emotionally powerful experience. Highly recommend.

rudolfpikel

I probably agree that it works well enough standalone, but I also think the first Patlabor movie is quite good so I wouldn't recommend it I don't think.

Mangoappreciator

Have you seen the Kaiji adaptation Animal World starring Michael Douglas? Not an anime but I didn't know where else to post

purplealchemist

D GRAY MAN. I feel like I always end up recommending this series to everyone. The anime is turning 20 this year, so I was going to re-watch it myself. It's kinda a forgotten (sort of) classic. The manga is still going. If you like Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, you will like this series.

IpN

World Trigger! A bit unfortunate that first season is very long (71 episodes) but season 1 is getting an anime reboot. It has great powerscaling and battle tactics that makes sense. Great protagonist too!

Xwelldo

"Classroom for Heroes"! It's a 12-episode show about a Hero who basically can't age: so he looks like a student even though he saved the world like 30 years prior. So he ends up going back to school because he doesn't really have to worry about his old life. Everyone's heard of him, but only a couple of characters know that he is "that guy". There's a lot of funny and charming side-characters. And even though the MC is generally OP, he's not always admired for it, which I think makes for fun subversions. (i.e., people actually WANT to see him lose, sometimes)

Bernie

I'd love to see your review of Shoshimin (22) episodes. I love this show especially the episode about how they try to find out how someone made the "delicious hot chocolate"

SomeCallMeGON

Mekakucity Actors (12 eps) May not be your usual speed, but it's not often mentioned despite doing some interesting things.

UnemployedWorkr

Sengoku Basara: Samurai Kings. The series is technically 24 episodes plus a movie but the first season is just 12 if you only wanted to watch one season. It's really silly but a fun watch. DONT watch judge end thinking its a third season. It's a different continuity but ive seen it listed as a third season in some places.

Lanfearow

Adding another one I just thought of: Romantic Killer. It's only 12 episodes on Netflix. Funny show about a girl who's life suddenly turns into a cliché rom-com

ws04

osake wa fuufu ni natte kara 13 ep x 3 min short cute fluff anime

Jon Lyons

86 - 24 episodes

Marion Halim

Movie: NIght is Short, Walk on Girl Same universe as Tatami galaxy. Whimsical story, weird at parts but overall a fun watch

ningmengcha

Tatami Galaxy for a series!! Or the Night is Short, Walk on Girl TG is my favorite anime and is super overlooked

Carson Hu

Shion no Ou: The Flowers of Hard Blood (22 episodes). Shogi sports anime + murder mystery about a mute middle school girl whose parents were murdered when she was a child. It's a cool combination of a female-lead sports anime (which there are few of) and a crime drama as Shion's journey as a Shogi pro intersects with the murder of her parents.

sticky

My recommendation is Dino Girl Gauko: it is a 9 min episode comedy series with two seasons totalling at 39 episodes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dino_Girl_Gauko - Its about a girl who turns into a big dinosaur when she's angry. Some jokes get a bit repetive over the course of the whole series, but its very silly, cartoonish, and fluffy overall.

sticky

And if you are interested in doing any re-watches for reviews, I would be curious to hear your thoughts on Pom Poko. It is my personal favorite Ghibli movie. :3

V

I very much recommend The First Slam Dunk on Netflix! It's an anime movie adaptation of the final arc of Slam Dunk the manga, but adapted ~30 years later and directed by Takehiko Inoue, the mangaka of Slam Dunk the manga. It's made to be enjoyed by both people who have and have not read the manga, and is an exhilarating and touching story about a group of underdogs who strive to be the best Basketball players in their division!

Eric Mcallen

100 meters just came out so that’d be my first pick. Otherwise The First Slam Dunk for movies Show would re:zero. But I also feel like that might be something you dislike based on your reviews of shows

symphonic

I know you've already watched it but I'd absolutely love to hear you gush at length about Sound! Euphonium since it's my favorite anime. Also would love an update to the Love Live tierlist at some point 🥺 👉👈

Josh Rutkowski

Birdie Wing is my suggestion here. I really enjoyed how wild that anime is. It's so unabashedly *anime* I couldn't help but have a smile on my face, it's so fun lol

Wynn Creek

I'd recommend Restaurant To Another World, its food porn but with fantasy elementals thrown in, its 2 seasons with 12 episodes in each season

Gretchen Lam

CITY The Animation (13 episodes). It came out last summer from KyoAni and has the same author as Nichijou. Very zany comedy without much of an overarching plot, but does have interesting characters and fantastic animation

Time-Machine

The story from Hasunosora Girls Academy School Idol Club! I wasn’t going to recommend this because 1) it’s the cutscenes from a mobile game and technically not an anime and 2) it’s long But you said in the tier list video today that you were interested in learning about the new girls and so I’m shooting my shot! They have a movie coming out in May that will be a continuation/culmination of three years of story! Meaning now is the perfect time to catch up! Don’t look at how many hours all these videos are combined, don’t worry about it 👀 (to be fair, all the live streams show as being like 2+ hours but there’s actually usually only about 40 minutes to the stream, the rest is just waiting room filler) Here’s the playlist of the full story. Turn on CC to get subtitles for the first episode, then it switches to hard subs. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL4jFwZRRPIEBlGMTOlscUgg5bQvev_k4g If you want an even bigger gauntlet (of course you do, why wouldn’t you! /j) this playlist also includes all the official lyric videos for original songs. I like how they break things up, almost feel like OPs or EDs sometimes. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL4jFwZRRPIEAmlXQUKQYUVWiyUJo7nAPZ I fully do not expect you to actually take this on, but I love Hasunosora so I had to try. If you want to check them out, now’s a great time! I promise to recommend an actual anime (and a short one) next time.

Lord Lore

I'd love for you to watch the Revue Starlight movie, but that requires also watching the 12 episode anime it's a sequel to, because without it the film is probably entirely incomprehensible.

turtleduckymomo

I'd like to see your thoughts on captivated by you (5ep) and karaoke ikou (5ep). very short series by the same creator. the movies I was gonna recommend were 100 meters and blue giant, but ofc you've already seen them lol

Vic

Now that you've watched 100 Meters, I'm BEGGING you to watch Orb: On The Movements Of The Earth (25 episodes). It's by the same mangaka (Uoto). Orb is *technically* about heliocentrism, but it tackles so much more in such a beautiful way. Also, the villain is one of the best villains I've ever seen in media period.

Sly Wolf

Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress. It's 12 episodes plus 3 sequel episodes put together as a movie. It's about Japan in the industrial revolution going through a zombie apocalypse. The zombies run very fast and can only be killed through destroying their heart which is surrounded by a cage that normal bullets and blades cannot pierce. Everyone lives in villages surrounded by walls and are only connected through railways that run huge armored trains. It's pretty steam punk-y.

c mercado

I see you’ve watched the Mononoke tv series and there 2 Mononoke movies on Netflix. There will be 3 in total. The vibes are a little different than the show but I’ve been loving this new peak into that weird little world of mononoke

Colin G.

Just watched the new movie Cosmic Princess Kaguya and it was very interesting. It's on the longer side for a movie (2h20m), but it was very charming, had beautiful animation, and I have been thinking about it almost non-stop since I watched it last night. The music is good too. Definitely gives you a lot to think about after it's over

blah

I have two suggestions but both are long so I don't mind if you skip: 1. Uchouten Kazoku (2013 & 2017 - 2 seasons, 13ep + 12ep) - Its about tanuki that live in a city. It perfectly puts a whimsical story above a dark undertone. I have a hard time exactly pinpointing what I like about it. I personally think that it does a good job in depicting coping with loss, self-destructive tendencies, avoidance of duties, etc. 2. Welcome to the NHK (2006 - 24 eps) - You probably heard about this. If I were to simplify it, its about a man who is a shut-in that falls into many different traps in society. It is shown in a comedic way, but it tackles some serious issues.

timdiggity

I’d love to hear your thoughts on Angel’s Egg (1985). My favorite Mamoru Oshii film. Probably the most vague and avant-garde of his work that I’ve seen, but I’d say it’s more character-focused than something like Patlabor or Ghost in the Shell.

Bran Garbaj

I came here to recommend the same movie after watching it a few hours ago! I agree that it's very interesting and charming, however it definitely has it's fair share of flaws too and I'm interested in SungWon's take The animation is absolutely GORGEOUS, definitely the highlight for me even as someone who cares more about characters than visuals

Andrew Pichot

Movie: Mind Game, you can find it on YouTube. I've never seen anything like it. Show: After School Dice Club. Short and sweet.

Mahdi Muhib

Watch Sonny Boy (12 Episodes). It's one of those anime you'll keep thinking about long after you've watched it.

BanG Dream It's MyGO!!!!! (13 episodes, there's also the sequel Ave Mujica which is another 13 episodes feel free to continue if you enjoy mygo!) and no you don't have to have any knowledge of previous BanG Dream entries, a heavy character focused band anime i feel would contrast nicely with the recent Oshii stuff!

I've love to see you watch Akagi (26 Episodes). It's by the same author as Kaiji which you seemed to have loved. It's got such a vibe and it's honestly pretty funny at times as well as being set in a super interesting time period for Japan and having a unique artstyle. Me and a friend had a great time watch partying it.

Girls last tour (12 eps) slice of life about two girls who navigate a post apocalyptic sci fi world. Has a very loose through narrative at points, but mainly episodic. Character designs weren’t my favorite but I still enjoyed it a lot despite that.

I'd be interested to see what you think of Panty and Stocking. Season 2 finally came out so you can watch it back to back and not have to deal with a 15 year wait. It's Gainax/Trigger, love letter to western animation, and the dub is one of the greatest dubs I've ever seen (for S1 at least, Amazon recast everyone in S2 and I think they did a decent job). I'm late to the party with this one so I'll probably just pick it again next time in case you don't see it.

The Story of 15 Boys. Animated kids movie from the late 80s. It's a relic of it's time. A blast from the past.

I highly recommend watching re:zero. It’s one of my favorites with one of the best stories and plots I’ve ever seen, and the character development is also brilliant, but it is a little bit longer of a series, with season 1 being 25 episodes, season 2 being 24 and also the third season that just came out which is 16 episodes. It’s 100% worth though can’t recommend it enough.

Shiki, 24 episodes, two OVA's included in that count, one of what I consider to be the best horror anime(Which isn't exactly a very large genre of anime to begin with.), featuring traditional vampires, the kind that have to be invited in otherwise they can't enter. The art, the music, the story, the atmosphere, it's all fantastic. It's not jumpscare horror. It's entirely psychological and terror through atmosphere. And it actually has a message, or maybe a question rather, though your mileage may vary on that.

I recommend A Tree of Palme, a visually impressive anime film I hadn't even heard of up until a year ago. Great visual and character design.

Polar Bear Cafe. Laid Back Camp.

Space Runaway Ideon, 39 episodes and a movie, Be Invoked. Inspired Neon Genesis Evagelion and created by Yoshiyuki Tomino back in 1980, it is a mecha series that has flaws but remains unique in many ways. Which is probably why they never made a spinoff, sequel or remake

Impy

Tiger and Bunny (50 Episodes across 2 seasons) Its a corporate super hero show whose first season is about passing the feelings of realizing you are in the process of passing the torch to the next generation and finding your purpose or sense of self throughout this. The second season is about the concept of adult relationships both inside and outside the workplace. Its not perfect, but it holds a special place in my heart.

I think you’ve already seen Ping Pong: The Animation, but I’d be curious to hear your thoughts on it, maybe after a rewatch since it’s so short. Every time I rewatch Ping Pong I catch new details I missed, and it’s become one of my favorite anime of all time. Massively underrated for how well written it is. (Also I need to watch Chihayafuru after hearing your recommendation)

I think you'd find Sonny Boy (12 episodes) a really interesting watch! It's one of the few original anime productions and it was directed by Shingo Natsume (of One Punch Man season 1 fame among other works). It's the most thematically and artistically ambitious anime I've ever watched while still being grounded in a coming of age story. It's one of those shows that's not overly concerned with explaining every little detail or "making things make sense", so it's best watched with an open mind that's ready to go with the flow. Luckily, the plot is secondary to the characters and themes. Doesn't hurt that the soundtrack is also incredinle. I hope it makes your list!

Zee

if you liked kids on the slope try given its a similar show but more homoromantic and abt rock music instead of jazz

Check out Rolling Girls. Great story, great music, fun powers, and motorcycles. What else is there to love
