I have never seen YuYu Hakusho before, so for this new Patreon reward, I will be watching at least 7 episodes a month and recording my thoughts as I go. Obviously this will take a while, but I'd like to have at least one patreon reward with a long-running show where I watch it solo.

Oh hell yeah, this is a good show. Also, fun fact, the creator is married to the creator of Sailor Moon.

SailorChichi

I just watched it for the first time last year and loved it. I'm interested to hear your reactions!

Thank you so much for taking my recommendation in addition to your friends pestering you winning out! This is one of my favorite shows of all time! So excited to see what you think!

YYH is my favorite anime and has been since I watched it on Toonami, and I'm excited to see your reaction to the series. I feel like you aren't going to like Hiei haha As much as I love this series, part of me wishes it had just been Yusuke as a ghost interacting with other ghosts and learning to be a kinder person and learning how much he was loved while he was alive. I'd recommend reading the manga up until he comes back to life, because there is way more content of him being a ghost and interacting with other ghosts and spirits. It's really sweet.

Upgraded my tier for this. One of the most influential shows of all time, and my childhood favorite. Hope you enjoy.

Ironwolf

Awesome. I loved YuYu Hakusho. Especially the first few arcs.

This pushed me to get the 5 dollar tier haha. Great ep, glad to hear youre liking it! It's one of my all-time favorite English dubs so I'm glad you've at least heard some of the English voices before, despite going for subs for the watch. Excited to hear your thoughts on the rest of the show.

Hell yeah. YYH is peak. hope you enjoy the watch!

This has been and probably will always be my favourite anime I will forever stand on the hill that the dub is best and the wake in the first episode is one of the most sad and greatest scenes in all of anime

I am THRILLED that you’re liking it so far SungWon! Yu Yu Hakusho has been an enduring favorite of mine since I was a kid, whenever I revisit it it feels like seeing old friends again. ❤️ I’m excited to see what you think about the rest of the show!

Josh Whalen

One of the few 90s anime that I would wholeheartedly endorse the English dub. Lot of the usual suspects giving some really excellent, fleshed out performances.

"A show about kindness and heart". You nailed it. This story knew exactly what it was from page one.

Steinarr

I'd personally rank this as the best Shonen battle anime because the character development is simply head an shoulders above just about every other series of this type. Who Yusuke and his friends are at the beginning of the series is VASTLY different from who they are at the end.

Kpep

One of my fav animes! Excited you’re getting to watch it. Concerning the English dub vs sub, I’d say the two are actually quite different vibes. The localization did not do a one to one translation, so it can feel like completely different show for some parts. If you really end up liking YYH, I’d recommend rewatching the dub in the future to see all the changes they made.

So glad you're covering this show. I was personally a fan of the dub via Cartoon Network's airings. Now I've checked out the sub, and the og voicework AND original dialogue are great and hilarious. That sad piano music gets me every time.

This got me to upgrade my tier lol. Love Yu Yu Hakusho; Hunter X Hunter is good and I'm always waiting for the manga to return, but it just doesn't have the same cozy vibe. The anime had a lot of freedom to fiddle with the manga. First of all, Yusuke as a ghost solving mundane problems went on for a bit longer in the manga, so that's worth checking out. And it's generally agreed that the anime greatly elevated later manga arcs.
