Next arc should have some more content you might be interested in. The fights in maize castle are definitely not the most entertaining part of the arc. I think the next arc does a better job of introducing fun characters and villains to make the fights more worthwhile. They’ll also be some more female characters that I think you’ll really vibe with.

Not that surprised that you disliked Maze Castle based on your Genkai Tournament commentary. This is really the payoff for the pattern of "Yusuke wins by luck" because he tries it with his shoes but it doesn't work. This forces him to dig deeper and, as you point out, sacrifice something where his previous wins have mostly come for free. It's not the most popular fight but it is a turning point imo in Yusuke's character arc. The next arc has some better villains and some that are even worse! Oh boy!

The anime does take a fighty turn like you said and this arc is the worst representation of it, because it feels kind of fighty to be fighty. Next arc is the beginning of fighty with a purpose!

I do think you'll enjoy this more when the real villains arrive and the fights have actual stakes.

This arc is def "see how the team fights now that they're all together" with trying to give you a rough idea how each character operates. It's very introductory and can be kind of slow bc of that. I def agree that the stakes IRL are more interesting than the rush of fights, although I enjoy the humor where it pops up. Still top two fav anime for me tho, even with this arc having an almost filler vibe to it.
