Love this idea. I haven't seen JoJo's myself but definitely curious to know what you think of some of the later parts. Also shout out to Tomokazu Sugita as Joseph

(also not a fan of the animal abuse I've seen in part 1 ep1 too. Don't love finding out it's reoccuring )

it happens constantly, it's easily one of my least favorite parts of the series

Part 3 is definitely the worst paced imo. The introduction of Stands lead to a VERY "Villain of the Week" formula that lost its luster before they reached Egypt. Iirc Part 4 is actually just as long, but I would recommend a new fan coming into JJBA to skip some/alot of the episodes leading up to Egypt

My take on it is a lot of the enjoyment comes from puzzling out the mystery of what the heck you're looking it, and your feelings on the genres being pastiched, the cheapest mass market entertainment around, printed on the cheapest paper, starting with a 1880s/90s penny dreadful, it's Dracula with a man named after Ronnie James Dio + Pride and Prejudice, and all those orientalist stories about cursed artefacts, then it's morphs into Indiana Jones and the 30s and 40s serialized adventures that George Lucas was obsessed with, but Part Three is contemporary and like a supernatural road trip, and I don't care about the genre of "road trip",but it is fascinating that Araki constantly throws in true and false trivia facts that are just things he heard, writing before the internet All that being said, I started at Part 4, and I think it's both a great place to jump on, and probably my favorite Part

Thanks for all the exclusives! This is definitely the most active patreon I’m subscribed to.

I only watched up to Part 2. I’ve seen clips of Part 4 and onward more often than anything from Part 3. Part 3 doesn’t interest me. Jonathan is my favorite Jojo.

Totally agree. I also watched the show because it was “an important work” and have heard so much about it from friends and online reviews etc that I gave it a try and also stopped after part 3. Couldn’t get into it, didn’t feel attached or interested in the cast so dropped it. My friends kept bugging me to watch part 4 and onward, but I don’t think I will start it back up anytime soon.

I think an important thing to remember with Part 3 is that when the manga came out, all of this was new. The road trip structure, and most of all Stands themselves. As such, Stands are pretty basic in Part 3 because of the need to introduce the concept, and the following parts allow themselves to get way weirder with the abilities. As for the quality of the series itself, I find everyone constantly yelling funny, but totally understandable of you find it annoying. The quality of the encounters is certainly hit or miss, more miss toward the start when the solution is just Jotaro punching harder or getting STAR FINGER out of nowhere, but I find that I can look back at the good moments and think fondly of the series overall.

It's been a while since I've watched it, but Part 3 was always the most overrated in my opinion for the reasons you describe. Part 4 is my personal favorite, so I think it's worth a watch even if Stardust Crusaders wasn't your cup of tea; it might not completely turn you around, but there will at least be a lot to appreciate. I think the reason SC is treated as so monumental is because it establishes a lot of things that are later improved on: stands, obviously; more ensemble style casts; somewhat more formulaic structure (I even think p5 which is the closest to the "road trip/enemy of the week" style of p3 handles it a lot better); and supporting roles of previous protagonists. None of them really hit, imo, in p3, but they do lay the foundation for some really great stuff IF the sheer stupidity of it doesn't turn you off.

If theres any part you'd be into, it's part 4. If it's still not for you, watching past that might be a waste of your time

The thing is, I find Jojo to have a pretty transparent progression in the author’s skills. Araki just gets better at character writing, long term storytelling, and especially the fights. I’m up on part 3 but I get every complaint. Other than the ham and cheese voicework I find those generally get better. I’m definitely biased towards part 4 (my favorite) but I’d say even the kinda aimless beginning it has ultimate purpose and much better payoff than 3. I could still see a future where you just don’t vibe with the series, but I think your outlook on future parts could be quite interesting regardless. I’d vouch for moving forward but you do you

I love all of Jojo but I think Part 3 anime is by far the most hit or miss part. They really decided to elongate the anime compared to the manga for some reason for part 3 specifically so it gets a really bad rap for being really slow and poorly paced, but it's really just an anime issue. Like even though the Part 3 manga is one of the shorter parts in the series, it has the LONGEST anime adaptation by like 10 episodes, its insane. For example, The Sun in the manga is TWO CHAPTERS but they decided to dedicate an entire episode to it in the anime for some reason... It's mainly due to the fact that the Jojo anime is made as basically a love letter by people who already grew up with the series since it started releasing in 1987, but the anime started coming out in 2012. Like a year before part 3 finished, Goku went SUPER SAIYAN for the very first time. It's always funny to think about but even the part 5 manga was finished releasing before 2000 so it's had a LONG time to cook.... I do think Part 4 overall is way more up your alley, but I would say Part 4 is also where Araki really started to actually develop his style as it is today and really started to advance what a stand can be and how you can use stands in general. The power of your stand truly becomes how well you can actually use your abilities and the strength of your willpower which makes the fights that much better in each part. Part 5 is my personal favorite but i truly love part 4 as well and I hope that you do start to vibe with the series more because part 3 is truly just the ground work so that the rest of the series can shine.
