gonna be real, the more i watch of YuYu Hakusho, the more kawaii Hei gets, anyways the boys have to fight a bunch of guys from Japanese folklore

Yusuke's trial is one of my favorite scenes in this show or any anime tbh. The music makes me cry. Like you say, Yusuke's compassion for Puu is what gives him the strength to overcome the pain. This is the scene where it really clicked for me that Yusuke is a self-destructive and impulsive character, but whenever he's in a reckless situation he realizes there's people in his corner who would suffer if he died and he learns to value himself vicariously. It's not the most subtle theme but Genkai's "no living being is a one-man show" lecture really stuck with me at the edgy age of 11 or whenever I watched this.
