now that i'm doing monthly manga reviews, i'm open to suggestions for manga, i am specifically looking for

-stuff that is published in English (bonus points if they have a physical release)

-the shorter it is, the more likely i'll check it out

-i prefer reading stuff that is already finished, not series that are still ongoing

-please check that i haven't already read it: https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/MyManga/?user=ProZD

whatever you recommend, let me know how many volumes it is

Yona of the Dawn recently finished. It is 48 volumes though the last two aren't released in English yet (47 releases in Jan 2027).

Greg

Stardust Family by Aki Poroyama, complete and available as a combined edition (equivalent to 2 or 3 volumes? Shortish) not sure how to describe it without spoilers, but thought provoking.

Would love to hear your take on the manga for Undead Unluck, I've always found it interesting as a series i started out hating but gradually became a favorite. It's easily accessible in the Jump app- 26 volumes with 239 chapters. Big fan of this new patreon perk- excited for more!

I'd also recommend: - Sweat and Soap, 11 volumes, contemporary romance - I Think Our Son Is Gay, 5 volumes

Kyle Labriola

Hirayasumi, heartfelt slice of life with 10 volumes. Parashoppers, comedy battle shonen that never takes itself too seriously, 6 volumes. How Do We Relationship, lesbian romance comedy, 14 volumes and completed.

PG Modehouse

I'd suggest G Senjou Heavens Door. 3 volumes, 18 chapters. A darker psychological bildungsroman about manga, writing, obsession and what is sacrificed in the process. It's often compared with 2008's Bakuman, since that's the one that everyone knows, but this came out in 2000 and I like it a lot more. It never got an official english release, but it's on MangaDex.

The Summer Hikaru Died. It technically isn't finished but the final chapter comes out in a couple days. It'll end up being 10 volumes, 51 chapters in all.

I would DEVOUR a review of Haikyuu from you. Its a little long at 45 volumes, but its complete, available in English, and a pretty quick read given that half of the 'story' is told through action panels of volleyball games

Scree.You.Later

- Beat and Motion is pretty short at 48 chapters. It is completely done. It is about following your dreams. I recommend it! - Tokyo These Days is very interesting. It is also short at 24 chapters. They are just longer chapters. It is completely done. - No Longer Human by Junji Ito. It is short. - I am also currently reading Someone Hertz and it is very cute and funny. It is about high schoolers listening to late night comedy radio show and submitting their jokes.

I think our son is gay - 5 vol BL metamorphosis - 5 vol First is about a mom who suspects her son is gay and tries to subtly be supportive. Written by a gay mangaka Second is about a teenage girl who befriends an old lady and bond over a love of reading BL

Robert Hedley

Cross Manage a 5 volume series about lacrosse available on the Shonen Jump app

Gracereza

Fire Punch is Tatsuki Fujimoto's first series before Chainsaw Man. Very weird, not sure you'll like it, but I'd say it's worth a read since you've checked out his other works. It's 8 volumes long and is available both physically and on the Shonen Jump app, but only the web version and not the mobile app.

dragonweirdo

Strongly recommend Golden Kamuy. In terms of storytelling and attention to detail, i would put it nearly on par with full metal alchemist. it is 31 volumes long though.

dragonweirdo

i would also recommend Orochi, its an older anthology thriller/horror series by kazuo umezz thats very well written

Ironwolf

This might be dumb, but I wouldn't mind an honest review of the Legend of Zelda OoT and Majora's mask mangas. As far as I can remember they are a very short (between 1 and 3 volumes or so), they have a physical release, and they are in English. And since I don't really read much manga, I am a shallow well of ideas...

Like to recommend My love mix up, it’s a shoujo manga centered on two high school guys. Ran for 36 chapters and it’s all on the viz app

Matthew Silkin

oh BOY do I have some recs for you; literally JUST became a patron for this - Sanda: Completed, 16 volumes, 4 currently translated - Kowloon Generic Romance: Completed, 12 volumes, 11 currently translated - Hell's Paradise/Jigokuraku: Completed, 13 volumes, all translated - Kasane: Completed, 14 volumes, all translated

Matthew Silkin

seconding Someone Hertz. if you consider Akane-banashi a masterpiece you will love Someone Hertz. Kurage Mizuo is my favorite autistic (not canon but she is to me) jellyfish comedy gremlin

Matthew Silkin

also Viz just announced recently - like, a couple of days ago IIRC - that they are going to start publishing the tankobon in English in 2027, so that's something to be excited for

Matthew Silkin

oh OK based on what you said in the Q&A here's my top, top, TOP recommendation for you - Orb: On the Movements of the Earth: 8 volumes, just released in English in a 2-1 Omnibus. You've got to go in blind. Absolutely incredible

Jonathan Nguyen

I would recommend the Restuarant to Another World manga. It’s only 4 volumes and it’s just as sweet and comforting as the anime.

Nina Naghshineh

Blank Canvas: My So-Called Artist’s Journey, Akiko Higashimura, 5 volumes available physically in English

Catt

My all time fave is Noragami! However, it *is* 27 volumes which may be longer than what you are looking for. It just finished back in early 2024 and is available in English! :D
