It sounds a bit biased but I think a lot of these “imitations” were completely unintentional 😭 unfortunate case of not being aware and it biting them in the butt. Everyone who watches their content knows that this is based on the holiday thief video so the ski masks and ninja emoji are on theme. The “gang signs” like W for what you want and the heart Martin is doing unfortunately really got taken out of context especially with the contents in the video. I wasn’t offended by it specifically but when it was posted I did cringe… I just hope they can be more aware of how things can be perceived when posting so they don’t feed any unwarranted hatred.

Hey Senior thanks for making this video! A decent amount of black Kpop content creators talked about this controversy across all social media platforms, and I really appreciate that you also spoke on the drama considering you're a fan of CORTIS. I actually spoke to some other black kpop fans, and from what I could gather, some of their disappointment from the TikTok comes from the fact that gang culture is deeply rooted in Black-American culture due to systemic racism and what they faced in American history. Even though times have changed, there are still some people out there who will see a TikTok like this with no context and see it as a cosplay of the Black community. I also think context is very important in this situation. You and every other COER know that the boys were dressing up as robbers because their holiday content was about that. You and every other COER know that the W sign that Juhoon was signing is the "What You Want" sign. You and every other COER know that the heart Martin was making was his signature heart that he's been doing since the beginning. However, if you're not part of the fandom nor follow CORTIS, then we cannot fault some people from seeing the TikTok and thinking the boys were dressing up as gangsters throwing up crip signs. From some of the black kpop creators and fans that I spoke to, they know that the boys did not have ill-intentions when making this TikTok and know of the boys' respect towards black culture and artistry as it has influenced their music so much; they see this more as an ignorant act and expressed for CORTIS and their team to be more mindful of the content they post. As for other fandoms' extreme reactions, welcome to the toxic world of Kpop :( A lot of the fans on platforms like X/Twitter are very immature, including COER, resulting in them using their favorite groups as a weapon to attack other kpop groups. The reason I believe this blew up even more was because CORTIS were seen as a group that showed appreciation to black culture in comparison to other idols who debuted the same time as them like Tarzaan who was seen as cosplaying black culture. As a result, a few COER (not all!) used CORTIS to attack him and his group and possibly other groups too, so when the black Kpop community expressed disappointment over CORTIS' TikTok, some kpop fans from those fandoms used the opportunity to attack CORTIS and COER, resulting in the big outrage. And the thing is that those kpop fans don't actually care about the black community and issue at hand; they did indeed want a reason to finally hate on CORTIS. Sorry for the long comment, but overall, I agree with you that the whole situation was blown out of proportion, especially from the fandom wars, but I do not want to discredit the black community's feelings on the matter as well. As for how the boys have been acting after the drama, it doesn't seem like it's affected them and their content? Like in their recent live for Juhoon's birthday, they were talking about stuff most kpop idols would NEVER talk about, so they're still being their honest selves.

To sum this all up. Majority of the people who jumped into this hate train wanted to take it out of context not because they cared about racism but because they wanted to drag this group down. So they manipulated the narrative so other people who do not know about the context would jump into the hate train as well. It came to a point where there were literal death threats to the boys especially to Martin. It was reported to Hybe portal and Twitter for legal action. This also serves as a lesson to Cortis Team to be careful next time so they do not get taken out of context. But well knowing how toxic kpop is, no matter what they do, they will find even the slightest bit of fault especially when you are a threat to their faves.

exactly, its honestly so sad how much hate the boys have been getting lately over something as silly as a tiktok. I really hope it doesnt make them change or affect them in a bad way. the kpop community can be so hateful for no reason sometimes. even during their recent live for juhoons birthday some kcoers were complaining just because the boys were openly talking about relationships and stuff. Its so frustrating to see :/

emiilyyy

also hope you make a prt2 reaction to their recent tiktoks soon!! they posted some fun ones 🙌

Hi! I’m a new subscriber here and i love your videos. I’d like to make some comments about this and what you said in the video. First of all yes, there are multiple korean words that sound like the n word. And they are used so often because some of them mean “I, me, you, mine…” for example the ‘I’ one is ‘nae ga’ which sounds exactly like the n word when talking. ‘You’ one is also extremely similar sounding. So when people who are new to kpop first listen to some kpop songs and when the rap parts have those words, they assume its the n word which is not the case at all. (Also i would like to add there are other words that sound like some curse words. For example ‘light’ in korean is “빛” and it sounds like ‘bicchi’ so people think its the b word but no its not). Also I speak both korean and chinese so i can add that there are similar sounding words in chinese too also. And about the W sign, martin mentioned that it’s What You Want’s w. So it stands for that song. I watched some reaction videos and apparently it could mean other things but i had no idea. The C martin does sometimes, stands for CORTIS’s C. I also learned recently that there was a gang using this as a sign. In asia gangs are more like, i dont know how to explain this but do you know Yakuza’s? They have huge tattoos on their backs so older generation in asian countries dont like tattoos. Its also disliked when an idol gets tattoos. They blur the tattoos on TV if a celebrity has tattoos. I don’t live in the US and in my country there aren’t many black people so people aren’t really familiar with the culture or the other things like gang signs. Honestly I learned about all of this after I got into kpop and had some online black friends and saw the conversations. Anyway i definitely see how it would look bad out of context so i feel so bad for the boys and the fans. As celebrities they should be more careful. Btw eng is not my first language so there might be some unintentional mistakes sorry. I want to make a suggestion for reactions. I don’t know where to write them so i’ll add them here, sorry if its not the correct place. -> SEVENTEEN’s variety content is hilarious. In my opinion they have the most interesting concepts. Here is my first suggestion: the horror episode. Its hilarious. First ep (going seventeen 2020 ep 27): https://youtu.be/zKa-EGTpkRI?si=9W9i8CxYw4isiMkO Connected second ep (going seventeen 2020 ep 28): https://youtu.be/8A9UBdMBEgI?si=wbTBIwusu282CFsO If you would like to watch a guide for seventeen first, then i recommend the ‘super long seventeen guide’ by ‘caratline17’ which is in 4 videos. They have 13 members but trust me they’re so easy to get into. The team has 3 sub-units: hiphop, vocals, performance. So the guide is separate by the units. You wont regret getting into their content. If you want a shorter guide then i recommend ‘another helpful guide to seventeen’ by ‘odetosvt’. If you decide reacting to one of these guides please comment to me so i will send the link. Thank you for reading.

Oh and what about reacting to some of CORTIS’s and ENHYPEN’s airport videos? You can search on both youtube and tiktok about that like ‘enhypen airport’ or ‘enhypen airport mobbed’ i want you to see how crazy it gets with some stalker fans. Its one of the worst sides of kpop. So its not always fun and everything, it gets real dark. They have stalker fans called ‘sasaengs’ who knows where they live and even tries to break in sometimes. And when they’re at airports and its so crowded that they end up falling sometimes. They have bodyguards but its extremely crowded so accidents still happen. For example keonho one comes to mind. If you want i can make a playlist.

Btw the variety shows tend to have some after credit scenes so dont close immediately after the ending song/section please
