There’s a part in this live where martin talking about knowing eng and korean. I want to talk a bit about this. Martin’s been a trainee since 11 years old that means he’s been in korea at least since he was 11. So he went to a korean school and spoke korean mainly. Plus his family lives in korea. I feel like people forget this about some idols who’re born in eng speaking countries because of their accent being good. and expect them to know perfect english. I will give example using Jay Jake and martin. Among these three only martin is mixed, having a non korean father. Jake and jay’s parents are both korean. And among these three jake spent more time in australia, meaning he went to school there and his school years were spent speaking english mainly. And jay was born in seattle but was in korea most of his time. People expect all of them to know perfect english but sometimes its obvious that for example jay makes some mistakes or they dont know some words. I would say having his father speak eng with martin made him good at english but still he might not know a lot of things that you learn growing up in an eng speaking environment. Anyway sometimes i see some comments like ā€˜how does he not know this, isnt he born in the US’ and it makes me sad that people cant see that being born in a country doesnt make you automatically good at english. They’re all really good dont get me wrong but like saying things like ā€˜he must be dumb if he doesnt know this’ kind of comments are ridiculous. They know it in korean. They speak korean everyday. Jay says jake knows better eng and he forgot some. Martin in this live said he spoke korean mainly growing up and sometimes he doesnt know how some words spelled in eng because he didnt see it before and its a word he doesnt use everyday life. He knows it in korean obviously. I feel like the language you use during school years changes a lot. Anyway yeah sometimes i see comments like this and i get sad.

Glad you brought this up. Another idol who is similar to Martin and gets the same reaction is TXT Hueningkai, who is mixed and was born in Hawaii. In fact, he talked about how he has a fear of foreigners in South Korea because they will try to speak English with him since he's mixed even though he doesn't know English that well. Going back to Martin, he already speaks English very well and is practically fluent, even if it's not his native language. And you're right, even though he was born in Canada, he grew up in South Korea, so of course he is going to be most comfortable with the native language of the country he grew up in. I feel for him as I wasn't born in America, but I spent practically my whole life here and am an American citizen; so, English is always going to be the language I'm most comfortable with even though I was born elsewhere. Those people really need to get off these idols' backs as they are already doing the most to communicate to their fans globally.

Thank you, i agree with everything you said. I know about hueningkai’s struggles about this and i saw some comments about him too and it breaks my heart. I heard him mention several times how his eng is not that good. Also vernon from seventeen, living in korea since he was 5 and being mixed. Seventeen also say joshua’s eng is better since he spent more time in the US but people expect vernon’s eng to be better because he looks mixed. Of course all of these mentioned idols have great accents and can talk everyday language but having a good accent doesnt make someone’s vocabulary knowledge broaden. For example martin saying he didnt know what was antenna until james read it out loud and he realized he knew what it was, he just didnt see it written before and he didnt know the spelling but he knew the word. Then he said he is good at speaking eng but reading a book he cant focus. Still when these idols make mistakes when speaking eng they get more backlash because people expect more from them and if they dont live up to the expectations they call them names. Its honestly hard to watch

Guys I’m still confused was Martin born in Canada ? Bcs I remember google said that but I never hear himself saying he was born there. And on X there is one Korean person who translated some parts of their welives and Martin actually said that English was his first language to learn but since he lived in Korea for so long he uses Korean more. But I feel like every bilingual family does is at home I guess that his dad only speaks English with him so he could learn, also we saw that in the vlog and his mom knows English as well I’m presuming right lol since Martin said she lived in Australia in another live and probably to meet his father I would presume it was not in South Korea. Just random doubts I have that he might disclose some day. But with that being said since u were comparing yes we can tell that Jake used manly English his whole life and probably his parents talked to him in Korean at home, but since he was raised in Australia we can tell easily also in the beginning he wasn’t even that good in Korean. Now about Jay we can also tell that his mother language is Korean and his English is not totally fluently , bcs he just stayed some time in the USA right? Now with Martin since idk if he was born in Canada or not but since he said his first language was English and it seems like his dad just spoke English with him, also it seems like Martin was always interesting in the ā€œAmerican cultureā€, since he even said he didn’t listed to much kpop until he joined the company. And it’s impressive honestly bcs he didn’t went to an international school either. But since Martin is mixed was his family that by his father side probably just speaks in English and also his interest in the foreign culture.

K-pop idols usually release two albums a year, but there are exceptions. Groups like Stray Kids also put out Japanese albums and mixtapes on top of their two main comebacks, which can result in three to four releases a year, but that’s lowkey just a Stray Kids thing. šŸ˜‚

Thanks for the informationšŸ”„. That's a lot of work that stray kids are doing lol
