I had a feeling you would rock with Mention Me! Fun fact: Martin and Seonghyeon were credited for their contribution to the lyrics and composition, and they mentioned how they had fun writing the lyrics, which you can see in the song :) It's kind of cool how the song fits both the movie's theme as well as CORTIS too. Here's the breakdown: Juhoon: "Ain't got benefits, I made it by myself straight from the jump Ain't got benefits, I came up with the crew, and made the cut" ^^ You can interpret this as Juhoon, who was the last person to join Big Hit and CORTIS making the cut immediately after he met and joined the crew. James: "Top class, ballin', ready sold out big arena (Yee, yee)" ^^ They made it to the NBA and were the only artist to sell out their crossover concert. Martin: "Only first place 'cause I'm a leader (Yeah)" ^^Martin dominating the scene plus being the leader of CORTIS The Juhoon, James, Martin hook was the best part of the song they went nuts on those verses.

What do you say to those friends of yours? The ones that you said who know your reaction channel. I’m curious if it bothers you or how bad they think of kpop. Did they maybe listen to cortis’ go? I feel like a lot of people who were prejudiced about kpop start to like kpop after hearing songs like this that everyone tends to like. Also i’ve been wanting to ask, you mentioned that your sister got you into kpop and im curious whats her favorite kpop groups? Does she watch your channel

They’re saying young c.c. But reading the “c.c.” part in korean pronunciation

Okay I have a huge essay this time, so you have been warned. You make an interesting point about the popularity of K-Pop in comparison to anime, specifically in the West around @12:33. I got into K-Pop back in 2014 (guys I'm still in my early twenties I swear I'm not unc yet), so I've seen K-Pop before and after what I call the "BTS effect." BTS will forever be the face of K-Pop in the West because of how much they contributed to the expansion of K-Pop to the western world. Before BTS, K-Pop was only really marketed to the Asian audiences, specifically the Japanese music market as Japan has the second biggest music market after the United States. The only true success K-Pop had before BTS in the West was Psy's "Gangnam Style," which was some people's (aka my) introduction to K-Pop. When BTS was invited to the Billboard Music Awards in 2017 and won Top Social Artist, that is when people finally were seeing K-Pop, specifically the 3rd generation of K-Pop. This is why groups like BTS, BlackPink, Twice, SEVENTEEN, and more are still seeing so much success 10+ year later (despite sadly the average expectancy for a K-Pop group's popularity being 7 years). And thanks to the 3rd generation's success, the 4th generation of K-Pop was able to benefit from some of the attention that K-Pop had at the time. And now that K-Pop has expanded outside of Asia to the rest of the world, music in K-Pop is no longer focused on marketing to Asian countries but to the entire continent. But the issue with that is K-Pop in itself is starting to lose its identity. I've seen a lot of people refer to K-Pop as reheated American nachos, and unfortunately, I don't think they are entirely wrong. I'll use CORTIS as an example; to K-Pop fans, songs like What You Want, FaSHioN, and GO! might have sounded fresh to them since psychedelic rock, rage rap, and plugg are not common genres in the K-Pop scene. However, for people who listen to a lot of Western artists, these songs don't feel like anything new to them. Now mind you, I love all three of those songs (and this is no shade to CORTIS), but when I first heard FaSHioN, the melody really did feel like a Carti song (even when I saw Carti in concert recently, I felt that FaSHioN was trying to emulate the same mosh pit energy that his songs have in concert). And that is why I feel that K-Pop isn't able to garner the same attention it once had because they keep trying to keep up with Western music trends except make it K-Pop. Like when I went to try the Apple Vision Pro demo, I was watching CORTIS' immersive video (they had a collab with Apple Vision Pro), and the employee told me he didn't even know who they were and only knew BTS and BlackPink. And there was even in a video of CORTIS appearing courtside at a Lakers game, someone in the background asked "Is that BTS down there," which is kind of sad but the unfortunate truth that majority of people in the West still only know BTS and maybe BlackPink when it comes to K-Pop. Open to any civilized discussion in the comments :)

I ended up watching the performance on tiktok live stream and the angles were unfortunately awful but the crowds energy was insane lol! I’ll admit it took me a few listens to get into mention me but I think it’s perfect for a sports movie OST. I think the NBA underestimated the crowd Cortis would bring. The streets were packed and it was very chaotic. Cortis are actually the only performers for NBA Crossover that sold out tickets this year and the other two performers are ludacris and shaboozey! They were scheduled to start at 6:00pm but one of the hosts came out to let the crowd know that Cortis wanted to wait before starting the performance because all the fans weren’t even in the building by the time 6:00 rolled around. They’ve been giving spoilers for Young creator crew for months I feel like I’ve been played 😭 in their end of year video where they compared their current answers to their past answers, Martin mentioned Y.C.C and he said it in the exact way that it sounds in the song. Also the “James video” spoiler Keonho gave during one of their lives was referencing the mama awards video where James had to yodel as a penalty! They definitely keep coer on their toes…

emiilyyy

wish i was there honestly 😭 ill forever be jealous of the people who got to see the whole thing live 😭😭 LA coers are so lucky. i honestly cant wait for cortis tour and hopefully theyll come to europe!! also when i first heard the go remix it sounded so familiar, and then i remembered martin was the one who remixed it and posted a snippet in one of their old tiktoks it sounded so good tho https://vt.tiktok.com/ZSm6s5AhW/

LMAO I was at the NBA crossover event!! The boys are such performers they rlly know how to bring the energy. It's times like these I'm so glad to live in LA (a.k.a. Cortis's second home) 😭🔥 Also the fancam wasn't the best lol they were pretty far, tbh they should've kept the camera on the big screen but hey at least someone recorded the entire thing!

Zo

Also I just want to appreciate that they're giving us so much for only having 5 official songs out on their debut EP 🙌 So on top of their EP songs, we now have, Mention Me (movie soundtrack) Young Creator Crew/Young keukeu (idk if this is an extra or if it'll be in the new album but I love it already) Deja Vu (cover) Mic Drop (cover) Jingle Bell Rock (cover/remix)

Zo

(Sorry to add onto this essay Senior, but I wanna reply to this 😭) I actually get what you mean about K-Pop leaning more Western lately, but I don’t really see CORTIS as “reheated American nachos.” To me they feel more like they’re blending genres rather than copying them. A lot of Western artists stick to one lane, but CORTIS will jump from rock to rage to hyperpop in one album, which still feels very K-Pop in spirit. Also I don’t think being inspired by artists like Carti is a bad thing — music’s always been cross-influenced both ways. If anything it shows they can compete sonically instead of just sounding “different because it’s Korean.” And yeah most locals only know BTS/BlackPink, but every wave has to start somewhere. Someone has to be the next group people discover first! :)

Zo

One more thing 😭 I also think CORTIS leaning into influences from artists like A$AP Rocky and Don Toliver has actually brought in a whole new crowd that wouldn’t have touched K-Pop before. I’m one of those people — I’ve always listened to rap and rage, and most K-Pop just didn’t click for me musically or visually. Everything felt too polished or far from what was already in my playlists. CORTIS’ more “western” style (streetwear, minimal makeup, unedited vibe) caught my attention immediately, and because of them I ended up checking out other groups and gaining a real appreciation for K-Pop as a whole. A lot of my friends had the same experience too. They’re already pretty big in the U.S. for only debuting half a year ago, so honestly if you give them the same time that BTS and BlackPink had to grow, I could totally see them reaching that level too.
