Desperado -Personally this song is such a surprising track from TOP, but the lyrics are fun and comical! I have this song on my daily rotation now because it's such a vibe hahah -One thing that really struck me hearing this track for the first time is that his voice is REALLY deep (like his low voice actually amplified the bass in certain parts). -In the lyrics he also compares himself to Paul Gauguin, a French post-impressionist painter known for treating the act of painting as a philosophical journey for self-exploration/spiritual discovery (which is what TOP himself has been doing for the past decade). For Fans -The line "Red, Orange, Yellow, Green" is likely a reference to his last rap verse in BIGBANG's Last Dance (fun fact: he also used the same line as Thanos in Squid Games 2 🤭) -The lyrics on the official video says "Doritos", but it's actually "Kokkalcone" in Korean! It's a type of cone-shaped Korean snack that you put on your fingers to eat. I believe US has an equivalent to it called Bugles (: and funnily enough, if you put five of these snack on your fingers and gather your fingertips, it forms the shape of a crown (i.e BIGBANG's lightstick design). I think this is just a coincidence and he said he's going to explain why he used kokkalcone as an imagery in his upcoming magazine interview... but bruh what are the chances LOL Stendhal Syndrome -FYI, Tempo is the name he used when he was still an underground rapper! (I'm not sure if this was mentioned in the 2006 BIGBANG documentary 🤔) -This track samples an 80s Kpop song ("After the Play is Over" by Sharp), which is also coincidentally GD's favorite song 😅 I think that's why a lot of people are coming up with theories saying that this track is dedicated to GD, but who knows lol (edit: TOP just held an online listening+chatting session with the fans today and said that he used to listen to this song while looking at the empty audience seats after a BIGBANG concert when the fans left, and this song is basically a reinterpretation of what he felt back then 🥹) Be Solid -I agree with what you thought about the message of this song! This track sounds like the conclusion to the entire ordeal he experienced for the past 10 years and him reflecting on how to navigate his life from here onwards. ‐--------------------------- When TOP first announced his new album this year, he revealed Studio54 as Act 1, and Desperado as Act 2. I think it makes a lot of sense as the entire album reads like his entire journey for the past decade: -Self-Crucifixion and The Giant is the prologue - It sets the overall mood of the album about him confronting the past and his declaration to overcome the future challenges -Studio54, Ovaya, Zero-Coke, ADHD and Seoul Chaos (Act 1) describes his pain and mental struggles as an idol and as someone living in the Korean society -Desperado, For Fans, Stendhal Syndrome and Be Solid (Act 2) is him being reborn through music and recalling his love for his fans, music and art, and reflecting on himself to become a better person. Thank you for reacting to TOP's album and essentially learning more about what has been on his mind for the past ten years 🙂 In his physical album, there is a card inside that reads, "The time of wounds and deep descent has finally returned as art. I didn't come back to be loved again, I came back because I refuse to betray myself any longer." ( https://imgur.com/a/fRqqJgX ) This really made me emotional because it reminded me of the time when he said he's never coming back following the events of his controversy. I almost made peace with that decision (given all the shit he has went through), so imagine my surprise when he reversed his decision and returned to acting and now making music 😭 Also he would not have been able to release this album if he were still with YG... I mean just think about it, he only had 6 solo tracks during his 16 years with YG, while the other members already have at least 2-3 albums before their enlistment. Last week or so, the Korean media went wild after it was revealed that 7 out of 11 tracks in TOP's album has been banned on one of the major Korean broadcasting stations (meaning his songs cannot be played or promoted in shows and stuff due to explicit content or brand names - this was actually quite common for BIGBANG or GD's solo stuff), so they reached out to his team and asked them for clean/censored versions of the songs. His team basically rejected the request and replied something to the effect of, "It's okay I'll pass on that, it's just a matter of multiple perspectives." ("Multiple Perspectives" is the Korean title of his album lol) and TOP proceeded to upload that response on his IG story like he's so proud of it 🤣 I'm really loving this uncensored side of him resurfacing lol It's definitely sad that he will no longer be part of their group activities, but I think this album (and Bangchella) is a satisfying closure to the end of their journey as OT4, and a wonderful beginning to OT3+1 activities 🥹 OT3 has announced that BIGBANG's world tour will kick off in August, and TOP has also said that he will be holding concerts as well so there's a lot to look forward to!
