Regarding Simon, his hearing was the 1st of this month. He received a suspended sentence for cocaine use. Simon, the former producer of "XG," was charged with violating the Narcotics Control Act for using cocaine at a hotel in Nagoya in February of this year. At his first trial last month, Sakai admitted to the charges and stated, "I swear I will never use drugs again." In its ruling on the 1st, the Tokyo District Court pointed out that "he had used illegal drugs intermittently with people he knew for about two years, indicating a certain affinity for illegal drugs," but also stated that "he expressed remorse, took measures such as receiving medical treatment, and his wife promised to supervise him," and handed down a guilty verdict of one year and four months imprisonment with a three-year suspended sentence. Meaning, he has been convicted, but he will not go to prison immediately as long as they meet certain conditions, in this case, not repeating the offense. He is essentially on probation/good behaviour for the term of the suspended sentence (the three years). If he does anything criminal in that time, or breaches the other guidelines of the suspended sentence, he WILL go to prison to serve out the 1 year 4 months. From the court case: • Chancellor, who had been working for XGALX, had his contract terminated and no longer working at XGALX. • Simon first used drugs in 2014 with former Avex employee Hasegawa. • “I used drugs during a really difficult period in my life, after I had already overcome many hardships.” • He said he used drugs a total of four or five times. • “The first time I used them, it felt like there was pressure in my head. It wasn’t a pleasant experience.” • “If it didn’t feel good, why did you keep using them?” > “I mistakenly thought it was a way to bond with people.” • He used drugs after the Osaka-jō Hall show last year, and again there this year. • “Why did you start using them again this year after what happened last year in Osaka?” > “It was the final show of our first world tour, and it brought back a lot of memories and nostalgia.” • “Wasn’t drinking together at the after-party enough?” > “That was separate from this.” • Simon is not legally married in Japan, although they are considered to be in a common-law relationship. They reportedly plan to officially register their marriage in the future. • His wife reportedly feels guilty for not noticing what was happening. • From now on, his wife will support him while keeping a close eye on him. • He has been attending counseling sessions with his wife accompanying him, and he is continuing efforts to completely quit drugs by taking regular drug tests. • He has not contacted any of the XG members, and he believes he shouldn’t. • Avex has ordered him to stay away from XG. • He used code names like “Ninja” and “Chance” when communicating with Hasegawa about drugs. • He never used drugs alone, nor did he use them frequently. He always used them with Hasegawa. • “Didn’t you think that if your drug use became public, it could negatively affect XG?” > “I did think about it, but I was too naive. I should have refused, but I couldn’t.” • “You had a long relationship with Chancellor. Do you plan to stay in contact with him going forward?” > “No. I won’t have anything to do with him anymore.”
