[ VIZ x I'm the Grim Reaper ] Blog 5 - Reformatting... (Patreon)

So, one of the primary jobs that is required for turning ITGR into a book is reformatting it to fit a page format. It's a very complex process that requires a lot of redrawing, pruning, and drawing brand new panels.

I got lucky- VIZ asked me if I had anyone I could recommend for webtoon to page format conversion, and I told them about my friend Miranda (You may know them as the creator of Muted on WEBTOON and co-creator of Lovebot) and they ended up onboarding them as the layout artist for ITGR! Very awesome because I am super comfortable with them and communication is very easy.

We had a meeting to basically go over chapters 1-16 of ITGR and analyze how things should be formatted and my preliminary thoughts. What I was shocked over was just how long volume 1 is going to be.. It's... It's very long, lol. And just up to chapter 16! I actually thought that we would need way more chapters to fill up a book, but the book is actually overflowing with content.

The tl;dr of the review is I'm going to be redrawing a lot of the panels, and adding in some scenes here and there to better foreshadow events of the future. I tried to have scenes dedicated to foreshadowing things at the start, but most of it ended up being overly vague because I didn't want readers to complain that things were too obvious. But now that I've gotten better at trickling information, I know where I can stick in some things to make it more interesting. 

Additionally, there's also going to be an entire extra slice of life chapter exclusive to the book! They wanted to make the print version very enticing, so there will be a mini story just for people who pick up a copy :) There will be a bonus chapter in every volume. I'm also going to draw some extra art, right now the only thing I settled on is a huge spread of all the characters, entirely exclusive to the book.

Anyway this is probably the last VIZ update for a while, so next week's blog will be about something else. The blog topics will rotate depending on what's going on, I've decided!
