On the first truly hot day, I came to explore a historic bridge in my area:
Pollenzo Bridge: this bridge is a true feat of engineering, commissioned by King Charles Albert in the mid-19th century to connect the royal estate to the lands beyond the Tanaro River.
Today, only the two characteristic Moorish-style pillars remain of the original project.
In 1944, during World War II, the bridge was blown up by partisans to block the passage of Nazi-Fascist troops heading towards the city of Alba.
