One more time, we're gonna review some hour long music video about robots or aliens or something? Our work is NEVER OVER

I hope Todd pronounces that title with all the numbers in it

I understood your Haruhi Suzumiya reference Jacob

Brandon Hay

Bringing in Jacob as a guest for the anime episodes only makes me want to nominate anime more. I wasn't expecting the stealth Space Adventure Cobra mini-episode but I appreciated it greatly.

Hurray, this won, last time I looked it was losing. I'm glad we found an anime thing that Tod is okay with even if he did not love it exactly. For the longest time I assumed the One More Time video (segment of Interstella 5555) was just warning us that rave/techno culture would leave us civilizations open to alien incursion and so we should resist it. Note I have only watched the 1st episode of the Cobra series, but I think he had facial reconstructive surgery to go into hiding. Also the taking whole bits from current Sci-Fi is a apparently a running theme. The 1st episode of the anime is very similar to the plot of Total Recall (or rather the short story it was based on We'll Remember It for You Wholesale, as Cobra long predates the Arnold movie). The border between Japanese shows being brought over and achieving success (Astroboy, Speed Racer, Voltron) and "anime" subculture is blurry. Some of it starts in the 80s with Star Blazers apparently (?), or Robotech (its fandom being very interested in the Japanese source the magazine Protoculture addicts was as I understand it important). I think Sailor Moon in the 90s is at another level where you start getting lots of newspaper stories about what is this anime stuff, so anime started having some mainstream visibility (often negative) at this point. I think the 2000s is the time when anime received maximum visibility through old media. Now more people in North America watch anime knowing it is anime, but through the more diffuse fragmented culture of streaming.

This is why you've got to vote for Voyage Of The Rock Aliens. We need more representation of so-bad-it's-good movies about singing aliens interacting with humans layered with a meta-social commentary that was about 20 years ahead of its time.

Now I want to put Haruhi Suzumiya Endless Eight on the poll next month. Not the first season, not Disappearance, just Endless Eight. Confuse Todd even more.

Shout out to the AMV of Zeta Gundam that was perfected synced to Digital Love. Even after learning how to edit video myself, I’m still in awe at how well it was edited together. And I am eternally sad that it was consumed by the YouTube void.

The funny thing about Cobra is that it was created by a Shojo writer who didn’t want to write series for little girls anymore, and knowing that you can kind of tell.

The insane answer to what band should have a space opera based on their music is the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I’m not saying it would be good, but if you were to take the songs of any group for transliteration into visuals, RHCP would be the most interesting choice.

As an old who was there, the first four tracks off the album were released between November 2000 and October 2001 with the music videos that make up the first ~30 minutes of the movie. One More Time came out first and 5 months before the others and the album and the other videos didn't get nearly as much airplay. And because the album is only 60 minutes, the movie is only 65 minutes. For the re-release last year, they tacked on almost every pre-Discovery music video on the end to pad the run time!

So, my dad would regularly play Kenny Loggins' "House at Pooh Corner" on his acoustic guitar for me and my brother when we were little kids. I also have been into cooking my whole life, and watch several cooking youtubers. One of them, Anti-Chef, recently posted a video where he makes a recipe from a Winnie the Pooh cookbook (unfortunately named "The Pooh Cook Book"), which reminded me of "House at Pooh Corner." I relistened to the song (and decided I love it) and went to its wikipedia page. There on the song's page, I learn that Daft Punk samples "House at Pooh Corner" in "Face to Face". I go to listen to it (it's one of the tracks from the album I hadn't heard). Every time Loggins singing "Christopher Robin" pops up in the mix of "Face to Face", it's VERY noticable and SO weird. I guess Daft Punk sampled it because Loggins does have a very ethereal voice (kinda like Karen Carpenter). It's still very jarring. Wild that "House at Pooh Corner" was a crucial central inspiration for a Daft Punk song. Disappointed that ya'll didn't mention it.

Excellent find! "The Pooh Cook Book" is rough, but "Cooking with Pooh" (1995) might be worse.

Discovery is a perfect album to me. Every time I hear it, I feel compelled to listen to the entire album nearly every time
