Last week my iPad was packed with old Corsetto family photos in preparation for drawing these two pieces; one of my Uncle Jeff above, and one of my dad as a kid below.

Dad's drawing was for his birthday card (he just turned 65); sadly, the portrait of my uncle - my dad's youngest brother - was for his funeral. My family reunited in Aptos, California today to celebrate Uncle Jeff's life and see him off. My brother contributed a live performance of Amazing Grace & Sweet Caroline (Jeff's favorite song), and I contributed this portrait to greet attendees. He was a sweet guy with a huge heart and so beloved by everyone who knew him.

I really jacked up my dad's face in his card, but c'mon, it's not SUCH a departure from that expression. (I've been told that I too make that face, but this apple fell directly under its tree, so I wasn't terribly surprised to hear it!)

I'm sorry for the sad reason for a family reunion. You did a magnificent bit of portraiture there. Yes, I've seen photos of you doing that lip curl (Flehmen?) in the past and you definitely resemble your father in other ways. Holy moly, have you increased your mad skillz over the past year or so!

Amazing drawings. I am saddened for your loss; additionally, I’m sure your father appreciated the card. Keep up the wonderful work, love seeing the progress.

Sorry for your loss! Really touching portrait.

I love how much your dad as a kid looks like both you AND Brent! And what a lovely tribute to your uncle. <3

I had to look up "flehmen" and got a montage of hilarity through image search, thank you!

I was so surprised to look through old photos of my uncle - who barely has anything in common with my brother or I, physically - and find that Brent looked a LOT like him when he was little!
