The ISCA group started Caricature Resolution Challenge for the month of January and I decided to let myself in on it, especially after I saw that lineup!

I got ahead on these (shh don't tell), so I thought I'd post them early here. :) I used a Zig Real Brush for the linework on the first two, but as much as I love these brushes, I was  CONSTANTLY smearing the ink, so I returned to my trusty Zebra brush pen for the second two. Luckily Lady Di's eyelash smear was kinda on-brand anyway.

I'll post these here, of course, but you can also follow them one by one as I post them to my Instagram art account, very creatively called @dcorsettoart.

Are any of you doing any kind of 2019 challenge? This month? This year? Even if it's not related to art, tell us about it below!

My only resolution for myself this year is to live my life one day at a time, as present as I can be. I love the Rosa Parks pic the best.

Jesse Richards

As a former professional caricaturist, these are incredible.

I've given up on 'full year' challenges because as soon as I 'fail' one day I just abandon the whole thing. This year I've promised myself to do sets of 30-day challenges instead, because even if one of those 30 days isn't completed, it's fine, it's just a 'mini' challenge - I've not "ruined" a whole year. Might as well see how much of the rest of the set I can do, then aim for better in the next 30 day set. So your January challenge is a perfect companion '30 day' challenge; we can be challenge buddies! --- Except I'll just sit here and do my things and leave the wonderful artwork to you!! (*^_^*)

With any luck, they’ll be professional challenges on graphic novel projects I’m shopping to agents.

dcorsetto

That's some good shit right there.

dcorsetto

Oh how cool that you were in this world, too! Where were you working? Gigs or amusement park? (And thank you u_u )

dcorsetto

There's a wise decision. Good luck with your 31 days this month!

Sheri Spangenberg

I usually do March of Robots, and Mer-may, Zoo-ly and Inktober/Drawlloween :) I do better with 30 day challenges, because my priorities shift through the year. I don't want to feel like a jerk because I missed 5 drawing days because I was trying to finish a cross stitch for a gift, or to finally knit my leg warmers for barre class or something. Easier to re-prioritize for a month at a time.

I'm not doing any challenges but I'm going to try to document my upcoming surgery. I have a chronic thing and surgery will do a ton of good and I've wanted to share my experience in general. It's going to be personal and a lot but I hope I can follow through on it.

dcorsetto

Ooh wow, I'm glad you're documenting it! When does your surgery begin and end? I hope it goes smoothly and does exactly what it's supposed to do for you!! <3

Ak, I forgot to reply to this. I worked gigs, like community festivals, school events, bat mitzvahs, and a handful of corporate events. Mainly lots of teenagers. IMHO, the older a person was, the easier they were to get a likeness, because they had more unique character in their face. Teenage girls tended to all look similar because they all focused their efforts on looking similar. The worst were babies or little kids, who don't sit still. Luckily babies all look similar anyway. And sometimes adults would be too embarrassed to get it done, which is ridiculous. It's a shame that a common perception was I would make them look "bad" and exaggerate their worst points, so I tried not to do that. I like that your style does that, too.

dcorsetto

My worst nightmare came true when I was booked for a birthday party for TWIN TWO-YEAR-OLDS. D: Yeah, I tend to veer middle-of-the-road while still (hopefully) getting a likeness!

I just saw this. I had my first one last week on, 1/31 and in having another on 2/14. Then I need a bit more in a few weeks but I should be good by late spring. I'm glad I've got a job w/insurance that can help me.

dcorsetto

Oh man, yesssss for jobs with insurance!! Yeesh, happy V-day to you? Good luck with all of it!
