I'm sharing tonight's figure drawing sesh with all of you, since it's SFW. :)

We've talked about having a costumed model come in to pose for us for... literally years. Like maybe a decade. Michael and I are getting old.

Anyway, we did it! Our model is super into cosplaying, so she dressed up as something we called Princess Leia Mobster. I am still woefully terrible at drawing guns.

Nice work ... the dark shadows on the right-hand Fave are perfectly classic action pulp newspaper strip

Joanna

I don't know why you say you're terrible at drawing guns. The pistol in a couple of those looks perfect to me. I wish I could have seen a photo of her hairstyle, it looks wild.

I realized after awhile that the most fun thing about costumes is that you can draw DARK shadows. No matter how dark the skin of your model is, if they're nude, it's a tough call to shade their skin pure black!

Joanna

Ooh, thank you! She's really gorgeous.

If that cat was Pip, she'd be holding it in its favorite position so it can take a nap. Pip's a weirdo.

With the frilly shirt/vest combo and boots, I was getting Leia as Goblin Queen vibes. Fun! I did a Dr Sketchy's once, but my local group was super bad about actually posting to social media when they were meeting and where. They basically expected you to be at the last meeting to get the info for the next. I have no idea if they're still doing it! Wish I had a local figure drawing group, or even know local artists well enough to organize something on our own. All my artist friends are 1+ hours away, not conductive for regularity.

I can't even tell you how much I love the logic of replacing hard-to-draw objects with cats in any given drawing. 😂

dcorsetto

Oooh totally Goblin Queen, you're right! Figure drawing groups are woefully difficult to pin down, it seems. Try any local college art department, or arts organization, if you have any!

Lucy Bellwood

Agreed. I snorted with laughter when I got to that drawing.

She looks like a new Firefly cast member. As for drawing guns, if you can't draw it, you shouldn't have it. Um, never mind...

dcorsetto

Oh man, I thought you said "THE new Firefly cast member" and I got all excited!! DON'T DO THAT TO ME!! :p
