Drawing Out The Garbage (Patreon)

I had the pleasure of chatting with the town blacksmith, Dan Tokar, the other day (don't let his handmade website and AOL email address fool you, he's very good).
Dan has a lot of apprentices - my housemate Ryan is one of them - and a lot of the short-lived ones come to his forge and introduce themselves by asking him to teach them how to make a sword.
"Well first, you have to learn how to make, oh, about fifty" of some small metal item whose name now escapes me, but is the equivalent of an aspiring artist drawing fifty perfectly-shaded spheres before learning how to draw a human face. Dan said this answer generally sifts out the people who are willing to learn how to walk before they learn how to run. "You have to draw out the garbage," he said, before you can start making a sword.
I drew out the garbage the other day working on these secondary character designs. I hope I'm not repeating myself too much by saying this, but this is exactly what you're helping me to do by backing me here. It's the biggest benefit to working on a book at a reasonable pace instead of last-minute like GWS was; I have time to work out the kinks instead of whipping up a new character in five minutes and having to live with a mediocre design for the rest of the strip, slowly altering their look to improve it over time (and hoping no one notices!).
Anyway, I want to thank you for giving me the luxury of making this book pretty and, with any luck, something I'll be proud of. :)
Here are links to those amazing artists I straight-up copied up there for practice!
And I forgot to label him, but that fellow who looks too much like my boyfriend up there is Kris' boyfriend in the book. You'll... understand why I'm not keen on him looking like Luke when you read it... !
P.S. I'm going to change the name of this tier to "Sneak Peek Level," because that's really what this tier is about! (Why the fuck did I call it "Editor Mode," that doesn't even make sense?!)
