Letting the dog out in the morning, the house is very quiet and calm when it's that early.

Chris Driggers

Get up, let the dogs out into the backyard, make coffee, feed said dogs, pour coffee, sit out in backyard and drink coffee while listening to birds and squirrels, read daily comics on iPad.

Amy Crook

Making a cup of tea

Laura J Testa-Reyes

Walking out to let the chickens out in the morning. Most everyone is asleep or out, and even though the chickens are crazy to be let out, there is a calmness about this.

Christy Prager

Crack the curtains, sip whatever drink - likely tea, enjoy the silence, check notifications and emails.

Alyxx S Berg

before the others wake up, I feed our special-needs kitty and have a snuggle, then let the dog out, then feed her. only then has my day started.

WayTooLateTV

Very meticulously shaving my face, with a molehair brush, shave soap, etc. I don't do it anymore (lazy!beard won out) but it was the most calming, centering thing for me. It would keep my mind quiet and my touch sharp. ...So to speak.

Ines Petersen

Preparing matcha tea, whisking A LOT until it‘s very frothy, then taking the tea to my meditation corner, sitting down, and sipping the tea before meditating.

Crushbot (security*)

I have chickens too, and I can attest to their exuberance to be out of the coop.

Derek Otway

Waking up before my partner, arm draped over me. Quietly get up, make coffee and read a good book until they wake up beside me. Knowing the most important things in life are close and comfortable.

Andy Ihnatko

Disassembling something, giving it a thorough cleaning/servicing, and then putting it back together. Like my electric razor. Strip it down, put the cutters in an alcohol bath, scrub all of gunk out of the parts with an old toothbrush, drop of oil on the motor spindle, reassemble, and then a shave with a rejuvenated shaver. Quite satisfying. Meanwhile, of course, my office is a cluttered mess. :)

Meisterj

Wake up, bathroom and brush teeth then climb back into bed and read a physical book. Can be a novel, comic whatever. Read for an hour or two in silence until hunger forces me out of bed. I'm ignore me phone or not really engage with it but it's still close.

Nancy K

Putting together my breakfast cereal every morning (I don't drink coffee)

Maxentius

Sipping French press coffee and reading on my chaise lounge with at least one cat loafing on my legs. (That doesn't seem so pretentious when I do it, but writing it out sounds like I'm THE WORST!)

DieMaster00

Taking the dog out for a walk at night, nice slow, quiet walk to let him sniff everything to hit's hearts content and me to just look up at the stars and imagine.

Kama Miller

Working in the grapevines. Talking to them while I prune and tie them up.

BrenaMarie

Listening to soft classical music and visualizing the notes appearing on the staff.

Sarah Manx

Waking up my (giant fluffy) dog in the morning by talking to her and petting her until she's ready to eat breakfast. Reading webcomics alone in the morning on my couch with a cup of coffee.

Tom @ Magic Chopstick Games

The time right after I get home from walking the kid to school. Sit down, breathe, sip a coffee, and catch up on the world. (The walk is nice, too, but counts less as "quiet time" being as it's downtown with a dog and kid, so 😄)

Jesse Richards

I like to sit in a coffeeshop and read, with a pile of books in front of me and snacks/drinks that I've brought with me. I use this service called Spacious (in NYC) which uses unused restaurants in the daytime as quiet workspaces. Essentially coffeeshops that are quieter than actual coffeeshops since no one's ordering or making coffee. Then I'll just go through and read a chapter or so in each book in the pile in order. The books are always a mix of nonfiction, fiction, graphic novels, and comics!

Jack Arnold

Sitting on my back deck with a glass of wine, enjoying nature. Followed by sitting in my house with a glass of wine enjoying all my local artist artwork (including a Danielle piece).

Sheri Spangenberg

Curled up in my recliner reading or doing cross stitch with a cat curled up on my lap

Claire Lines-Mattei

making and drinking morning coffee definitely. Also taking my bra off after work lol

Katie McMahon

Definitely making coffee in the morning! I love how methodical it is, almost meditative. Measuring the beans, grinding them, and slowly pouring the water over the grounds in a circular motion all feel ritualistic to me. I suppose I am brewing a wake-up potion, like some sort of very tired hedge-witch :)

Lisa VanHorn

Cup of hot tea, snuggle with Captain Kitty, cross stitch.

Katie Wright

Making coffee early in the morning and sitting on the couch in a sunbeam with a blanket and a dog or two on my lap. Also! Meditating while lying on my bed with the windows open and a nice breeze coming in.

Corintha Hull

A cup of tea and a book (sometimes featuring a kitty in the lap).

Gregory John Fink

A walk in the rain. saying nothing and listening to the word as I wander along. I get some strange looks doing it.

Christian Brown

I enjoy sitting in my home office, looking out my glass door at the bird feeders I have set up. Watching literally 100's of birds and 6 squirrels drain 2 large feeders of sunflower seeds per day is incredibly enjoyable. They are remarkably intelligent and have a strong social hierarchy. I especially love our 4 blue jays yelling at the squirrels (the squirrels do not like to take turns).

Ralph

Sitting in a coffeeshop early in the morning reading the latest news and social media on my iPad.

Bori Vekony

Making coffee or tea. Enjoying said coffee or tea while looking out the window, or sitting in the garden, weather permitting. Doing the dishes after eating (I know, strange!).

Casey

When I wake up early for work, I let my dog outside and then walk around holding my cat until Jackson is ready to come back inside. Walking around lazily while holding a purring George is my favorite quiet routine. He’s always cuddly in the morning because he’s not allowed in the bedroom at night (he just wants to climb and knock over everything).

Kit Sekelsky

Coffee or tea-making for sure. (Taking out the dog is more giving constant gentle encouragement to convince her that she should just pee so we can go back in.)

S

Catching up on my webtoons!

NJGR

Every night while I wind my brain down for (hopefully) sleep, Neal reads to me while the cat lies on/near us. It's the most relaxing and beautiful part of my entire day.

Cathi Andrews

Thinking through this i realise that I'm not always giving myself quiet time anymore. If my energy levels are right, I love putting together all the fresh ginger and spices to make a chai. I also love feeding the magpies (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oYEYc8Ge3nw, not my video), but I talk to them, so it's not a true quiet time. If I'm answering from your poll questions, although I don't drink coffee, the intent of that is probably the same, so I'd pick that one.

Christina Vani

Even though I don't have a garden and even though I make coffee several times a day, my heart is drawn to watering the garden. That sounds very peaceful and meditative to me; I choose that!

Ryan Walker

Reading (webcomics) on my tablet, in a comfy chair, feet up, before my spouse wakes up.

Andrew

Yoga, then meditating for half as long as I intended to

Melissa Wilson

Pulling weeds from the lawn, and deadheading flowers, when the neighbors aren't yet awake. Listening to the birds, and not thinking about anything, is as close to free therapy as it gets!

Courtney Nesom

I roll over and snuggle the snoring kitty next to me. I make tea and sit and either read or cross stitch with the news on the tv in the background.

dcorsetto

I used to watch my dad do this when I was little, and I have a good story about This One Time... maybe I'll do my next Procreate comic out of that. :)

dcorsetto

I like to think that you brush your teeth so as not to offend the main character of whatever book you're reading. ;)

dcorsetto

I dunno, is there also a monogrammed bathrobe and pipe involved? ;)

Meisterj

XD - I've always been a brush before eating type and if I brush when I get up and decide it's time to stay up I'm less likely to eat without brushing than if I put it off

dcorsetto

Hah! Blue jays are always such dicks, but in this case it comes in handy!

dcorsetto

(Also DAMN this makes me wanna invest in more bird feeders!)

dcorsetto

As someone who weirdly enjoys washing dishes (and not-weirdly enjoys a clean kitchen), I can relate!)

dcorsetto

Reads to you!!! <3 <3 <3 You two are the cutest.

dcorsetto

Oh woooooow I had no idea magpies made that sound!! Thanks for digging that up!

Cathi Andrews

I imagine it applies to all birds, but they also appear to have "dialect" differences. By which I mean that they sound slightly different in different areas. Near me, they have fairly fast warbles, and make some human (speech-like) sounds, but out in the country they seems to have more laid back and slower sounds. That video is recognisably a magpie, but definitely not from around my home area. Birds are soo awesome.

annetten

I have a morning routine of checking up on the plants in the garden - any lice or slugs, do I need to weed or add some extra trellises for the peas. It's good for my brain. If I can (mostly weekend mornings) I bring a cup of tea and sit on the stairs looking at the birds. I also love snuggling my sleeping son, but most days he wakes up before I do...

dcorsetto

All of that sounds so calming. u_u I don't have a whole lot in the garden this year - in part because I'm gone for the next few weeks - but I do love giving myself a break from writing to go check on the status of my plants. I get the "good for my brain" bit. :)
