Really liked these two, so I thought I'd share them early. :)

I was super inspired by a recent Oh Joy Sex Toy guest strip artist named Zachary Clarkson - check out his incredible use of color! This is what I'd like to move up to - it's not monochromatic, it's just hella unified by an overlaid color.

Not sure I can accomplish that with marker, but we'll see!

(I'm ashamed that I haven't been adding a "Shepherdstown" tag to these until now! Since the book still doesn't have a title - which is driving me nuts, still just calling it "THE BOOK" - I'll start slapping this tag on my studies for it until then.)

Love the use of color on the sunflowers study. That is lovely.

Wahah, I was just scrolling down to comment "Augh, these are LOVELY!!" and then I read the note about being inspired from a guest comic on OJST ;) No wonder these caught my eye! As always, you're a stunning artist and I love these illustrated views into your world.

Aw you sweet babe! <3 <3 <3 I've had piles of little things to tell you lately, and finding & loving Zachary's art is one of them!

Danielle, this might be weird, but the flowers in the "before lines" one are absolutely gorgeous. I really like the "after lines" one as well, but there is something ... nostalgic? Evocative? about the flowers in that before shot that really made me pay closer attention to the flowers. (I probably wouldn't have even noticed this without the comparison shot, so thanks for letting us see this!) Also, the color-to-b/w images being next to each other does weird things to my eyeballs. Not bad, just weird. Like it always takes me a second to see the b/w without the color after I look at the color one. Is that just me or is it an eyeball thing?

Hey, I just saw this. :) Thank you, I really like the line-less one, too! That's why I photographed it, figured I could kinda get a two-for-one out of the experience. ;) I think the feeling of nostalgia might come from memories being a little fuzzy, you know? I'm gonna keep that in mind when I start drawing the book; it'd be a nice way to get a feeling across. :) And YEAH, I have a weird feeling when I look at the color vs bw versions of those! It's making me realize that, until/unless I hone this ability, I may as well keep using software to black-and-white my reference photos, because I have a hard time translating the colors into values with my own eyes. Glad I live in an era where it's easy as pie to do!
